Sorry I didn’t post anything yesterday… I was quite busy.
I was speaking with some people I know who are not from the area and they told me about their experience at the Hard Rock Cafe the other day. They had gone there for dinner. The restaurant was empty. They weren’t impressed with their service from the beginning. Their meal was delivered, and one of them had a bug on their plate. They called the server over, who said, “It’s not a bug. It’s parsley.” Just as she finished saying that, the “parsley” walked across the plate. Yuck! The server took the plate away right away, but never comp’ed them anything and never gave them a discount. These people said they wanted to speak to the manager, and they saw the server speak to the manager, and then he went into his office and never came back out. Talk about terrible service!

I can confirm the service @ HRC is and has always been very awful. Its also one of the prime offenders of jacked up prices in the tourist area, more so than any of its other locations I have been to.
what a disgusting story. i’ve never been there because of their prices and after reading that i think i’ll just not go.
I too have had a bad experience at Hard Rock Cafe and also TGI Fridays on Victoria.
I’ve had plenty of bad customer service experiences (rude servers, long wait times, etc), but never had a bug walk across my plate. I laugh every time I try to imagine what these people went through. The “it’s just parsley” line just kills me, and then the parsley walks across the plate
man, you ever wonder what some servers would do just to get their way! All they want is customers, some don’t even CARE if they’re happy or not!
Haha that’s so gross to think about.
That is just disgusting! I walked in once sat down looked at the menu and walked right out but not before telling the waiter the prices were absurd. The manager should be fired, he/she should of made sure that the food was comped and should of personally apologized to the customers!
That’s just wrong…
I wouldn’t tip a single penny if that were the case.
I was last at THAT Hard Rock I think back in 2000. I went there twice and both times, I enjoyed it more-so than the one in the USA side. It may have been the change of atmosphere, because I do remember everything being very average, including so-so service (7yrs ago, people)…
Maybe they need a reality check… there’s a LOT of other choices now, since they first came to town… it’s about time they change things up a bit.
Here are my prime offenders as far as rip-offs in NF for food both prices and service included, in no partticular order.
1. Both TGIF locations
2. Applebees near casino
3. Outback near casino
4. Hard Rock Cafe
5. Denny’s (although I think someone told me this closed)
6. Pizza Hut on Lundy’s
7. Ruby Tuesday’s Clifton Hill
Thats all I can come up with right now
I guess the moral of the post is stay away from large chains.
The large chains have only come since Casino Niagara opened. Unfortunately many of the smaller “mom and pop” operations have closed.
Yeah, its really sad especially in a tourist town. That is were you can always find the best deals.
speaking of restaurants….has anyone else been to Mama Mia’s? The place has been around as long as I can remember (and that’s pretty rare these days). If they have survived this long, I figured that they must be pretty darn good. Especially now that they have a second location IN the Fallsview Casino. It WAS good - But it was a bit pricy for a plate of pasta. And everything else was a la carte.
Has anyone else eaten at the original place - was that the same case there, or is this a casino price bump?
Wife and I went to Embassy Suites for the Sleep Cheap, and stopped in TGI Friday’s for a drink. We had a look through the menu while we were there, and just sat there shaking our heads at the positively outrageous prices. And if East Side Mario’s opens on Clifton Hill, it will be another place that locals won’t go to because of prices and lack of parking.
On a good note, there is going to be an Applejack’s restaurant opening at Niagara Square. It looks to be a new, but rapidly expanding chain. At last somebody realises that there are actually people living in Niagara Falls who would love to eat out at reasonably priced places that we can get to and park nearby.
hi guys
we always eat at boston pizza on the hill when we’re there..actually..we find the prices are pretty much the same as they are here in hamilton..service is always good..love the atmosphere..and unlike eastside marios..the food is MUCH better..niagara?..denny’s on lundy’s lane has been closed for awhile now..it’s been *diner on the lane* for about a month or so now….ate at ruby tuesday’s once..won’t do it again..but..like everything else..everybody has a preference..graham?…i happen to co-own one of those mom and pop places..and yur right..it’s tough..VERY tough..we’re on the same street as hortons.wendy’s swiss chalet..harvey’s and about 723 pizza places…lol..but luckily..we have alotta people who love their breakfast…lol
sue
Kelsey’s and Boston Pizza are both good restaurants (my wife absolutely loves BP).
i said this before, i’ve never been to BP. I enjoy Kelsey’s, it’s a great place to eat, (especially Chicken and Ribs!). But, althought the M and P places are struggling, i hope some people realize that their restaurants are better than some of the bigger chain restaurants.
The problem with the big chains in niagara falls is:
1. poor service,
2. waiters want everything their way, and
3. the food may be good, but the amount of money you are paying for it is absolutely outrageous and unfair!
Quick question: Is montana’s on the Hill bad as well?
I’ve never eaten at any Montana’s, but my guess would be since it is part of the Cara chain (Kelsey’s, Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, etc), the food would be pretty consistent with other locations.
true graham…chris?..kelsey’s on the hill is great too..last time i stayed..i got it to go..i even got the HOCO discount!…lol…the montana’s on upper james and ancaster aren’t too good at all..ate at the NF one long ago..was good but very pricey..just my opinion..when i stay there..i find the short walk to casino niagara is worth the buffet for breakfast..i found when i was down there this past week…there is a skeleton staff everywhere..i waited for 15 minutes in line at wendys on the hill..one girl working out front was all..and she did NOT seem too happy to be there…which pisses me off (pardon me)…if yur that unhappy..quit..makes the customers uneasy..as for tipping..imma big tipper if the service and food is good..i even tip at hortons drive thru if the person on the other end is pleasent..or at least sounds happy…lol..i’ve been in this business for 33 years..i could go on FOREVER…lol

We have the same problem on this side of the border but we just drive to amherst where there are a plethora of good restaurants to eat at. Personally I am turned off by chain restaurants and their high prices and frozen, thawed out food and I would rather go to a mom & pop place that I know makes home-made food if I am going to eat out.
I have only ever had ONE bad experience at a restaurant ever (and it was nothing like what happened here), and it was a legitimate complaint. I do not eat out a lot but I also do not complain about silly things but you know when the spaghetti sauce is SOUR that something is very wrong. Boy do those servers get defensive when you complain even if you are calm and try to complain without making a scene.
If I was this person I would probably jump up from my seat and shout, there’s a bug in my food, especially given my hatred of bugs. I would also be photographing the bug in the food, taking video of the bug in the food then reporting it to the health department and other relevant organizations, not to mention broadcasting video of it on youtube to turn off potential customers.
We’ve been to a few different Hard Rock Cafe’s, and I must admit the one in Niagara Falls does not rate at the top of our list. A group of us, I think there was 6, went there for dinner one night. The service was slooooowwww, 3 of us sent the food back because it was, well, kind of warm, the prices, well, a second mortgage on the house was needed (much like many of the eating establishments in Niagara Falls) Hard Rock is a neat atmosphere, and when we went, we had a good time, but we could have had just as good a time sitting at home with pizza & wings!!
lol…so true ken!!…bin there,,dun that..wasn’t impressed at all…

Sara,
How far is Amherst from the Falls??? No, I’m not kidding…….I really want to know!!!!!
Amherst is a northern suburb of Buffalo, 20-30 minutes from the Falls.
Thank you, Drafty!
the worst thing about some restaurants these days is coupons. They make the coupons, but when a waiter or manager sees a coupon for their restaurant it’s like they just saw the apocalypse. We can easily compare coupons to insurance. When you show up at a restaurant and show a coupon to a waiter, they immediately take it to the manager so they can search w/ a magnifying glass for a flaw. Of course they want a customer to pay full price, but ya know what, if you’re not gonna take a coupon, don’t make them. that’s all there is too it. Why am i saying this? Because i have never used a coupon w/out the manager searching it like a crime scene. The NF restaurants have gone so far that some aren’t even TAKING coupons anymore! It just makes me ad that some people spend good money on those entertainment books and never get to use the coupons because noone excepts them!
