Tourism, you’re either in or you’re out! - Part 5

Here is the final part to the comments that Fallsview sent me.

In closing I could literally go on and on with things that need to be changed in this cities tourism industry, starting with attitude. But I also believe that it is up to those who feel strongly about certain things to voice their opinion. I am a little tired of hearing every year about why tourism numbers are down, yet no-one ever seems to have the necessary qualities required to deal with the stressful job of trying something new!

New border ID plan called good for Falls economy

From the Niagara Falls Review:

News that the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security will accept a secure drivers’ licence at land border crossings is being met with cautious optimism by at least one Niagara stakeholder who has long been in support of finding alternatives to passports for travellers.

“It is very good news for the tourism industry and for Niagara Falls,” said Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce president Carolyn Bones late Thursday night. “It’s long, long overdue. It’s something a number of people have been pushing for for a number of years, including the Chamber.”

On Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced the government will implement a rule in 2008 making high-tech drivers’ licences bearing a person’s country of birth and the so-called “passport lite” passcards with biometric information on them approved documents alongside the Nexus card and passports as acceptable documents at the Canada-U.S. border.

Disney magic returns to Falls

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Another romance. Another Disney classic.

But hardly just another show.

When a $2-million production of “Beauty and the Beast” opens next Friday, it will be the most telling sign yet whether Niagara Falls is ready for big-time theatre. The kind you see in Toronto and New York.

The kind that requires big risks.
