I generally don’t like reading blogs or articles that talk about how tacky Niagara Falls is. It may have been like that before, but companies are spending a lot of money to build beautiful attractions and hotels and to clean the place up. Sure, there are still places that aren’t great, but it has improved a lot.
I don’t usually express too many opinions on the blog, but I’m going to depart from that for a moment…
Recently, between the Dairy Queen and the restaurant beside it on Clifton Hill, an “electric chair” was put in. The chair, of course, is fake. The body, of course, is a dummy. It just sits there until someone puts $2 in. Then the body shakes about violently, smoke starts to come out, and a voice is there screaming. Apparently it is going all day. It’s only $2, so it’s almost throw away money, especially for the Americans who can’t really get anything back for their change. If you catch the tail end of it and want to take a picture or video, then you’ll put the money in. But I just don’t like this out on the street. If you want to put something like that inside a haunted house attraction, go for it. But keep it off the street. I don’t like this! I think it is a step backwards, and makes all of the improvements on Clifton Hill look bad.

The Golden Griddle next to the Imperial Hotel & Suites used to have a covered entrance way. I think it was a patio, but it wasn’t very nice. Recently they have taken down the cover and made it into a much nicer patio.

…we planned a trip to Niagara Falls because we had promised Alex when he was younger that someday we would come back and DO Clifton Hill at night. With diesel nearing $5 a gallon, we decided to book a hotel near the Hill and just walk everywhere we went. The hotel was not exactly primo but the location was great! The sign on the back of the door said that the rates could vary from $49 a night to $599!!! Its hard to imagine anyone paying that much for that room; it was just two double beds and a little table. No refrigerator or microwave for us so we had a cooler for a kitchen.

We walked the whole way to both falls first passing the slightly smaller American falls then the HUGE horseshoe (Canadian) falls it was amazing, all the mist rising up made you wet and you could walk right to the edge where the falls start. Then we went for a little walk up to Clifton Hill. First off it was steep, second it was FULL of crap (the locals call it mini Vegas) and it looked like there was heaps of kids and tourist walking around lights and displays moving I do not think I have ever seen so many wax museums it was crazy.
