Another day off; License Plate Hunt update

I’m taking a long weekend off, so I’ll leaving shortly and will be back in that “heaven” for a couple of days. I have a few things that are setup to be posted automatically tomorrow.

On an unrelated note, I’ve updated the License Plate Hunt page with some more findings. We’ve seen 8 provinces, 29 states, 1 diplomat plate, and 1 Mexican plate.

Thai Express / Villa Madina Mediterranean Cuisine update

The restaurant being built at the Admiral Inn looks like it is almost finished. It is actually under two different brands: Thai Express and Villa Madina Mediterranean Cuisine. It seems like there are a lot of Mediterranean places opening lately.

Note: Since I took this picture a couple of days ago, they’ve put up signs outside. They also had the doors open and I could see inside. It looks like it is almost ready to open.

What makes the Floral Clock tick?

From the Niagara Falls Review:

It’s run by a five-horsepower motor.

The Westminster chimes that greet visitors from its tower at regular intervals is controlled by an electronic controller.

The hands are made of stainless steel. The second hand is 21-feet long - the hour hand around 14.5-feet and the minute hand 17.5-feet, weighing a total of almost 1,250 pounds.

There’s more to the Floral Clock than just a beautiful planted face.

Festival designed for thrill-seekers

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Downtown is about to be invaded by daredevils.

And they’re hoping to bring thousands of tourists with them.

With a mix of stunters, buskers, vendors and live music, next weekend’s Daredevil Days aims to duplicate the success of Springlicious in May, which packed Queen Street with the type of crowds the area hasn’t seen in years, if not decades.

“This is an effort to try and revitalize the downtown and get it back to its glory days,” said event chairman Wayne Thomson during a media conference Wednesday. “It’s an extremely exciting time in the downtown. I would say this is the premiere event of the summer.”

The Happy Blogger: Misty water coloured memories…

Someone with a Blogger blog about happiness posted something where he reminisces a bit about Niagara Falls:

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to see when you’ve got Niagara Falls in your eyes?

I remember as a kid being on Maid of the Mist. Ok, all I really remember is getting sloppy wet and having a blast doing it. Thinking back, it really was the ultimate form of jumping in a puddle!

Butterfly Conservatory video

On Tuesday I posted about a trip to the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory. I linked to an image gallery, but neglected to post the video I took. You can see the video at YouTube or see it below.
