I generally don’t like reading blogs or articles that talk about how tacky Niagara Falls is. It may have been like that before, but companies are spending a lot of money to build beautiful attractions and hotels and to clean the place up. Sure, there are still places that aren’t great, but it has improved a lot.
I don’t usually express too many opinions on the blog, but I’m going to depart from that for a moment…
Recently, between the Dairy Queen and the restaurant beside it on Clifton Hill, an “electric chair” was put in. The chair, of course, is fake. The body, of course, is a dummy. It just sits there until someone puts $2 in. Then the body shakes about violently, smoke starts to come out, and a voice is there screaming. Apparently it is going all day. It’s only $2, so it’s almost throw away money, especially for the Americans who can’t really get anything back for their change. If you catch the tail end of it and want to take a picture or video, then you’ll put the money in. But I just don’t like this out on the street. If you want to put something like that inside a haunted house attraction, go for it. But keep it off the street. I don’t like this! I think it is a step backwards, and makes all of the improvements on Clifton Hill look bad.

Wow!!! Not only tacky, but downright disturbing. Maybe next year we’ll see an ‘attraction’ based on the recent incident on the bus in Manitoba.
I think maybe some emails to City Council and Clifton Hill BIA personel are in order.

A liter of gas is cheaper than that. It doesn’t belong anywhere.
Now, now, Smoke. We obviously wouldn’t condone anything like that.
Whatever a company wants to have inside a paying attractions is one thing, but to have this sitting out on the street is quite another.
Absolutely no need whatsoever for that out on the street inside fine outside no that could be very terrifying for children walking by and as you said it’s very tacky and totally tasteless!
Im not sure what is worse:
Society has fallen apart so bad this exist at all.
or
Someone actually wanted this on their property.
I do have to admit, that from a financial point of view, it must be a gold mine. In the few minutes it took me to walk past it and take a couple of pictures, it must have been started 4 or 5 times. At $2 a time, during busy times it must make a few hundred dollars each hour, with virtually no overhead.
Still, this should be inside somewhere, not out on the street.
I remember seeing this at the IAAPA convention a couple of years ago. I have to agree, something like this should not be outside for children to see, it can be quite disturbing. I doubt we’ll see this outside for very long.
Would anyone want their children to witness this ANYWHERE???
I know for a fact that this is disturbing, because the same prop is inside the Guinness World Records Museum, and it scared the living daylights out of my 9 year old. I am all for initiative as an entrepreneur, but this borders on sadistic in the eyes of a family man!
It would seems a natural fit for the Criminal HOF tho
Didn’t they used to have something like this before? I could have sworn I saw something like that before… although I think it was a random thing, not a pay-per-view.
I think it’s a cool mini-attraction… but it belongs as PART of a haunted attraction like Dracula’s Castle or The Haunted House, or even Frankenstein’s house… Im not sure on its general location. Can you take a broader photo so we can get an idea what it looks like sandwiched inbetween.
Here, if describing it right, probably sticks out.
Still, because there are like 5 haunted houses in less than a quarter mile there… Im sure it’s nothing offensive or disturbing considering everything else that’s there.
honestly, maybe in side the criminal hall of fame, or haunted attractions, i don’t see why anyone would put something like that out in the open for all ages, including infants and toddlers, to see/experience, i think families should speak up for what is right and where this be located if anywhere at all!!!
Rob, are you thinking of the moving box outside of the Haunted House?
rob..they still have that big box down by the veggy thing that acts onna sensor and starts rocking and makes noise like a wild animal or something inside..it’s not scary tho..ok..it can startle you..but it doesn’t mimic anything being killed…it’s been there as long as i can remember..
lol dan
alright, I work at the DQ right beside Shake N bake.
I never saw it, cause it seems so retarded.
Its reallly annoying cause everyone screams and DQ is an open ice cream store. The smoke from shake n bake comes into DQ, and i can smell the smoke.
We even had complaints, but DQ and The restaurant both cant do anything about it, because its the attractions who is in charge of it.
My best friend works at the restaurant, and she said it shakes the side of the wall.
Shake N bake is horrible, but dont pay it if you dont want to see it, and if someone else put the money in, just keep walking, don’t bother DQ and the restaurant about this.
P.S Shake N Bake isn’t there anymore. thank god.
