Niagara Falls in Spring 2008 (picture gallery)

This has been a strange year for weather. In mid-April, we had some absolutely gorgeous weather. It was almost summer-like. It lasted for about a week, and then for the last month we’ve had cold/rainy weather. We are certainly used to better weather by now, but we know it’s coming.

Anyway, regardless of the weather, the flowers still come up. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve taken some pictures and posted them in the Niagara Falls in Spring 2008 gallery. As is usually the case, you can see some thumbnails below, and the larger versions in the gallery.

Managing Niagara’s Fury

From the Niagara Falls Review:

From the cold, steel hands of futuristic cyborgs to alien attacks on the streets of New York, the project manager and technical director for Niagara’s Fury is well versed in the world of special effects.

John Erickson has worked on two of Universal Studios’ main adventure rides at its theme park in Florida - Terminator 2: 3-D, and Men in Black Alien Attack. He was also recruited overseas to lend his expertise on other theme park attractions.

Now, the 47-year-old is on board with the Niagara Parks Commission as one of the lead hands on a creative team building its $7 million, six-minute thrill ride at Table Rock, part of a $38-million expansion of the more than 80-year-old facility.

“I think we’re going to make this a very intense, very realistic ride where people will truly experience moments in time,” said Erickson.

Welcome mats are rolled out

From Niagara This Week:

Darryl Magierowski has a creative vision for what a T-shirt shop can be and it’s definitely more than simply a place to get a souvenir. It should be an experience.

From London, his vision of a retail store, screen printing centre and oddity museum didn’t exactly fit his hometown. He’s found it does in Niagara Falls, so he and his wife, Boo, have packed up and moved to the Rainbow City.

Twisted Ts and the Deformatorium oddities museum, created with a certain Coney Island flavour, is set to open for business this long weekend, the start to the magical 100 days between now and Labour Day weekend when tourists flood into the city.

Tourism leaders like call to repeal sales tax

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Niagara tourism industry insiders say they support John Tory and Tim Hudak’s call for the government to repeal the provincial sales tax for attractions and accommodations this summer. “Anything that will help bring tourists to Niagara Falls is a good thing,” said Chamber of Commerce president Carolyn Bones, during the chamber’s monthly Business After Five meeting at the Edgewater’s Tap House and Grill Wednesday.

Earlier in the day Hudak and Tory, the Niagara-West Glanbrook MPP and provincial Conservative leader, challenged the provincial government to suspend the eight per cent provincial sales tax on hotels and attractions to stimulate visits to Ontario.
