“Trip tracker”

This article (called “Trip Tracker”) from the Anchorage Daily News lists a few web sites that you might want to check out if you are going to Niagara Falls:

Niagara Falls offer awe-inspiring views of natural beauty. Set in lights at night, it’s the perfect romantic getaway. Or take the whole family for a watery adventure.

Back door to Spicy OliveBar + Grille

Not that this is anything important, but as I was walking along Ellen Ave the other day (across from the Days Inn & Suites on Ellen Ave near Centre St) I noticed that there is a back door to the Spicy Olive.

‘Prince of the Air’ grounded by security costs

From the Niagara Falls Review:

The $40,000 cost of hiring police to close Clifton Hill every day “destroyed” plans to bring tightrope walker Jay Cochrane back to Niagara Falls this summer, says Coun. Wayne Thomson, a go-between for Cochrane and tourism operators.

Tourism operators had been making arrangements to bring Cochrane, “The Prince of the Air” back to Niagara Falls this summer, this time to perform on Clifton Hill.

“It was going exceptionally well. In the final analysis, it came down to the police costs which were in the area of $40,000 for the summer,” Thomson said in an interview Tuesday.

Niagara Falls Tourism’s website says Cochrane “is expected to return to Niagara Falls” this summer. His plans were to walk a wire between the Sheraton-on-the-Falls hotel, at the corner of Falls Avenue and Clifton Hill, to a platform erected on the south side of Clifton Hill on land owned by HOCO.

Tucker family blog - Niagara Falls

The Tucker family blogged about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:

Raquel, Maya, and myself went to Niagara falls for spring break. I know that it’s kind of an odd place for spring break given the fact that the falls area is freezing in March but it’s the time of the year that we had free time to travel and it has always been a dream of Raquel’s to visit Niagara falls. We had a good time visiting the falls, Canada, and Toronto. All together, we spent five days there.

Table Rock Place construction update

Here are a few pictures of the construction at Table Rock Place:

Bronto’s Adventure Playland construction update

The changes I mentioned at Bronto’s Adventure Playland are more substantial than I thought. They’ve added new fencing around the whole thing and made it larger (brought it out to the front more).

Fallsview Casino smoking room complete

The new smoking room at the Fallsview Casino looks to be complete. I don’t know if it is open for use yet or not.

Chocolate Candyland/Domino’s construction

I don’t know if these are related, or if they are two different projects…

I posted before that there was construction at the Domino’s on Clifton Hill. Well, it looks like the Domino’s is gone.

Just as a reminder, the Domino’s was below the Burger King. On Oneida Lane (also underneath the Burger King), there was a place called Chocolate Candyland

There are two notices on the door/window of Chocolate Candyland. One is from the lawyer of IPCO Enterprises kicking out their sub-tenant.

The other is a notice from city claiming that they failed to obtain a building permit

Again, I don’t know how/if this is connected.

New display at Movieland Wax Museum of Stars

Movieland Wax Museum of Stars on Clifton Hill has a new display at the street. It is a pirate ship and has Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) and Will Turner (played by Orlando Bloom).

I think the set and costumes look great. The facial features of the characters are ok.

Garden City filmmaker hopes to capture Falls walker

From Niagara This Week:

Letting world-renowned tightrope walker Jay Cochrane walk his fine line over Niagara Falls would be an appropriate way to celebrate the glorious cataract’s natural wonder and its long and rich history, says a St. Catharines film maker who hopes to capture the historic event through the eye of his lens.

“When I think of the falls, I think of tightrope walkers and stunts,” said Jay Cheel, a 29-year-old St. Catharines man who is working on a documentary about Cochrane’s bid to cross Niagara Falls as a grande finale to his illustrious career. “It’s been 100 years since someone crossed the falls, so no one has seen it.”

Cheel began filming his documentary last year. He was looking for a project which would present a fresh and interesting light on the world-famous cataract that often slips to the back of minds of locals. He was shooting in Niagara Falls when he heard about Cochrane and his pitch to cross the falls.

For those who have been following the blog, you’ll know that I was interviewed by Jay Cheel last September. I’ve also updated you several times about the progress. It’s an interesting project, and his “promo” video is very well done.
