The illuminations will take place from 9 to 9:15 p. m. and 10 to 10:15 p. m. Friday.

Fear of heights is not an option for crew members scaling the rocks along the Great Gorge wall.
The Niagara Parks Commission began its annual gorge cleanup this week, as crews scaled the rocks and removed any potentially dangerous loose pieces.
Over time, particularly in the winter months, water gets trapped in the crevasses of the gorge’s rock face and continually freezes and thaws. This creates unstable pieces of rock that must be removed before tourists are able to journey behind and down towards the falls.
There is a small picture in the Review of them scaling the wall. I’ll try to walk by there and take some pictures myself.

So when he packed it in this week, we also knew something was wrong at the Niagara Parks Commission. But what? Gale, bound by a confidentiality agreement signed by all Parks commissioners, says he can’t tell anyone. Jim Williams, the commission chairman, says Gale took issue with an unnamed business decision and quit to make a point.
So where does that leave us? In the dark, mostly, which is pretty much the norm when the Niagara Parks Commission is concerned.
Gale’s resignation, shrouded in secrecy and all attempts to find out answers stonewalled, is yet another reason - as if one was needed - for Parks commission meetings to be held in public.

According to Robert Hickey, the Niagara tourism sector faces some serious challenges with the decline in American visitors.
In turn, the workers at the region’s many hotels face tough roads ahead with problems with low wages, increased seasonal positions and risks of being injured on the job. Hickey, a professor of policy studies at Queen’s University, said the key to improving conditions is through workers unions.
Hickey was on hand April 19 at the McBain Community Centre to present a report outlining the challenges and opportunities for improving work conditions in Niagara’s hotel sector.

Disagreement over a “business decision” is what led Niagara Falls businessman Bob Gale to abruptly resign from a Niagara Parks Commission committee, according to NPC chairman Jim Williams. Still, neither side will reveal what led to the bitter parting of ways.
“It’s just part of a board doing its business,” said Williams Thursday, the day after Gale’s decision to quit as chairman of the marketing and events committee went public. “He didn’t like the outcome and he exercised his democratic right to disagree with it.
“I’m sorry he resigned, or felt that he needed to. But I guess he just wanted to really make a point.”
