The addition/renovations to Al Macs at the corner of Stanley Ave and Victoria Ave (or is it Ferry St or Lundy’s Lane at that point?) is coming along well.

Tourism opens door to engage China

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Mayor Ted Salci was one in a billion last week. One in 1.6 billion, actually. The “mayor for all the people” spent four days in China, the world’s most populous country, attending a conference of more than 200 mayors from around the world…

As a guest of the Chinese tourism administration, Salci said he wouldn’t get on a soapbox and tell Chinese officials how they should run their country.

Talking tourism was the only item on his agenda.

“Niagara Falls was highly identified and recognized by the Chinese … The Chinese are anxious to do business with us,” Salci reported back to city council Monday.

Ice boom being removed

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Work crews are busy removing the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom.

The New York Power Authority, who own the boom in partnership with Ontario Power Generation, began opening the 22 spans Tuesday.

The boom, which is installed every winter, must be removed when the barrier of ice at the entrance of the Niagara River is about 402 square kilometres or less.

Ice cover on the lake was about 310 square kilometres Tuesday morning, making it possible to remove the 500- foot-long spans.

Another sign that spring is here and the summer season is on the way!
