Victoria Day weekend construction update

I can’t believe it is that time again. This weekend (Victoria Day weekend) and next weekend (Memorial Day weekend) mark the unofficial start of summer. Even though there are troubles in the economy, there seems to be some optimism going into the season, and there has been a fair amount of changes happening over the last few months. Here is a rather large update:

Al Macs is coming along. The building with its sign looks quite nice

Bronto’s Adventure Playland is open again

During the winter, the Criminal Hall of Fame was charging $5. Now it’s up to $6. I wonder how high it will go…

The sign for Cosmic Coaster is down having been replaced by 3 flat panel TVs and an FX Ride Theatre sign

They seem to be making good progress now. But is it 52, 62, or 72 storeys?

They are doing some painting at the Lodge Inn & Suites

The hotdog was missing for a long time. It’s back now

Sugar Mountain is open now. It opened last Thursday (8 days ago). The store is quite spacious, but the stuff is expensive!

Universal Inn & Suites

Dan M mentioned that the Econolodge on Stanley Avenue (between the 7-11 and the Doubletree Resort Lodge & Spa Fallsview) is now Universal Inn & Suites. Here are a couple of pictures I took with my cell phone:

Niagara Falls on the Canadian Side

A recent Flickr discussion was about what to do in Niagara Falls:

This is where the hubby and I will be spending our anniversay towards the end of the month. After looking online I have discovered a ton of things to do over there. Since we are only going to be there for 3 days I seriously have to cut down on my list of places to visit. Anyone have any suggestions or recommedations?

Olympic torch relay forges bond with host city, says 1988 torch bearer

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Twenty years after carrying the Olympic torch through the streets of Niagara Falls, T.C. Mangoff can still remember how it felt.

“It’s quite heavy actually,” he said. “You actually hold it pretty high.”

When he was 20 years old, Mangoff was one of 27 local runners who carried the torch when Niagara Falls was part of the relay leading up to the Calgary Winter Games in 1988.

Mangoff said he’d do it again if he could. And he might have the chance. Niagara Falls is one of the Canadian communities approached by organizers of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games to take part in that torch relay, said Mayor Ted Salci, who is coincidentally Mangoff’s uncle.
