Reduced plan for people mover better than none

From the Niagara Falls Review:

It would have been preferable to see Niagara Falls embark on a closed looped people mover system, but in the final analysis, half a line is better than nothing at all.

City council was faced with the prospect this week of either dropping the plan altogether or proceeding with a system that will move people along the top of the escarpment between the Clifton Hill and the Fallsview area, two focal points for visitors to our city.

The great wet north: Niagara Falls’ Canadian side

From the New York Daily News:

There are plenty of good reasons to visit Canada, but ironically one of the best is the view of Niagara’s American Falls from the Canadian side.

The head-on view of the American and Bridal Veil Falls is spectacular by day and even better at night, when multicolored spotlights give the mighty cataract a surreal quality. The panoramic view of the larger, horseshoe-shaped Canadian Falls is just as, if not more, impressive.

Daredevil Wants To Go Legit

From the Niagara Falls Review:

On a cool September evening last year, a tattooed, scruffy-looking guy named Dean Sullivan hopped the guard rail near the Horseshoe Falls, wrapped a rope around a tree and plunged head first into the mist.

He walked away without a scratch.

Two years ago, he was simply walking across a parking lot when he was clocked by a minivan, requiring 47 stitches across his midriff.

“I put my hands up and went right through the back window.”

He once fell walking up the stairs, splitting his chin open. He broke his back in a motorcycle accident.

It would appear being a “semi-professional” daredevil is actually the safest thing he does.

“That’s what I mean … I’m the unluckiest guy when it comes to anything else,” he says, showing off his assorted scars like Quint in “Jaws.”

“My luck is just unbelievable for things like that. But when it comes to jumping, I have no problems. I don’t know, maybe I’m a klutz.”

I found on Sunday that apparently I know this man’s father. Weird!

Fireworks displays tonight

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Canada’s longest running fireworks series returned to the skies above the Friday night, and thousands are expected to watch the dazzling display of pyrotechnic power on Victoria Day.

The Niagara Parks Commission’s fireworks displays will be held every Friday, Sunday and holiday starting at 10 p.m., weather permitting.

The 2008 schedule includes a spectacular show on Victoria Day.
