Niagara Falls - Niagara Falls - General Tips & Advice Reviews

TravBuddy has a posting with some information about Niagara Falls, along with a couple of other comments:

I don’t think as a family vacation it would be very fun…but maybe it’s because i’m old? (18 lol)… Pick Disney World for the kids!, Niagara Falls is a good place just to party it up really… It is kind of a tourist trap aswell,a meal at a restaurant is exspensive! compared to what I see in my city.

How could the person say it isn’t a family vacation spot?!

Convention centre’s startup is impressive

From the Niagara Falls Review:

The Niagara Civic and Convention Centre has unveiled both its new president, Kerry Painter, and its new brand featuring a slick, colourful logo and a tag line meant to differentiate itself from the multitude of convention centres that dot the North American landscape.

Dragan Matovic and his group of convention centre builders are on the right track.

The lure was just too great

This isn’t really about Niagara Falls in particular, but the intro to this Toronto Star article is all about a woman fishing in the gorge:

Tarah Cherwoniak knows how to get attention. It was deep in the Niagara Gorge, just beyond the bottom of the Falls, and there were a few dozen fishermen gathered. Despite an abundance of big fish in the river, none of the guys was having much luck. And these were serious fishermen, big guys with years of hardcore fishing experience. They knew what they were doing.

And out of this group of men in black, olive drab and camo, came Cherwoniak.

Dressed in a pink and black hoodie with a pink cap designed to accommodate her ponytail (all of which bore the word “FisherGirl”), the diminutive Cherwoniak approached the shore and took her place among the men. She cast her pearl-pink rod into the foamy river and, within two minutes – on her first cast yet! – she got a bite. Well, it was more than just a bite. After a long battle, Cherwoniak managed to bring in a beautiful 10-pound salmon.

Niagara cops ready to battle N.Y. sherrifs

This happened this past Saturday, but here is a Niagara This Week article that was describing the event:

Thirty of Niagara Regional Police Service’s finest are ready to take on their cross-border rivals in the annual International Tug-of-War Challenge on Saturday.

For more than 40 years, Niagara officers have taken on the Niagara Falls, N.Y., Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department in a battle of muscle for the accompanying boasting rights until next year’s challenge.

This year the Tug-of-War Team will be assembling in the parking lot behind Rumors on Clifton Hill at about 1p.m. before marching to the Rainbow Bridge where the event will take place at 2 p.m. sharp.

I hadn’t seen this article and so didn’t know they were going to be there. I just happened to be coming through the parking lot at that time, and saw them getting ready and then marching down Clifton Hill. Here is a picture I took with my cell phone:
