The lure was just too great

This isn’t really about Niagara Falls in particular, but the intro to this Toronto Star article is all about a woman fishing in the gorge:

Tarah Cherwoniak knows how to get attention. It was deep in the Niagara Gorge, just beyond the bottom of the Falls, and there were a few dozen fishermen gathered. Despite an abundance of big fish in the river, none of the guys was having much luck. And these were serious fishermen, big guys with years of hardcore fishing experience. They knew what they were doing.

And out of this group of men in black, olive drab and camo, came Cherwoniak.

Dressed in a pink and black hoodie with a pink cap designed to accommodate her ponytail (all of which bore the word “FisherGirl”), the diminutive Cherwoniak approached the shore and took her place among the men. She cast her pearl-pink rod into the foamy river and, within two minutes — on her first cast yet! — she got a bite. Well, it was more than just a bite. After a long battle, Cherwoniak managed to bring in a beautiful 10-pound salmon.
