Genuine Whirlpool Wood

I’m sure we’ve all seen some tacky, useless, or otherwise dumb souvenirs in our time. The manager of the Canada Trading Company was getting rid of some samples she had received and she gave them to me. Most of them weren’t Niagara Falls related, but here is one worth sharing:

A few questions:

  • How do they know the wood went over Niagara Falls? (There are trees all along the gorge)
  • Does ending up cut into pieces and sold count as surviving? :-)
  • Who buys this stuff?

Lastly, hopefully this post will inspire you and bring some things back to your remembrance. Share with us some of the tacky/useless and otherwise dumb souvenirs you’ve seen, and let us know which (if any) you’ve purchased.

Paving the Clifton Hill/Victoria Ave intersection

Last Fall the city did some work at the intersection at the top of Clifton Hill (at Victoria Ave). Last week they raised the utility covers and today they are putting the final coat of pavement down.

Colourful Days - Niagara Falls

Someone with a TypePad blog posted about coming to Niagara Falls:

Seems like not much changes around the Falls. Most of the ‘museums’ are the same as the ones I remember seeing 30 years ago when I first came to Canada… but I’m not complaining.

Jax asked “why was there so much gross and weird stuff in Niagara Falls?” I didn’t have an answer. But after looking around Clifton Hill, I realized that he was absolutely right. Everything was weird and colourful and totally fun. We took advantage of seeing the things that were free (because if you went into every wacky museum you would easily have spent a mortgage payment in an afternoon) and I got some great pictures out of our afternoon being total tourists!

Michelle + Mike: It’s Love!

A couple of weeks ago I posted a link to some photos by Bryan Caporicci, a local photographer. He has posted pictures from a different photoshoot that took place in and around Oakes Garden Theatre. They also went up Clifton Hill.
