More information on new Hampton hotel

As was commented on the previous posting, the new Hampton hotel will be on the triangular property bordered by Fallsview, Dixon and Main. This is up the road a bit from the Fallsview Casino and is “kitty-corner” to the Embassy Suites. It is that piece of property that has the big Marineland sign on it. Here are a few pictures:

This is the Notice of Public Meeting that was at the property. I’m never really up that way, so I never took a picture previously

This was taken from my car as I drove past the Fallsview Casino and came up on this properly. You can see the Marineland sign in the background. The Comfort Inn is across a street.

This picture was taken from my car when I was driving down Stanley towards Ferry Street. You can see the buffet restaurant that is on the property.

This is an aerial view from Google Maps. It looks like a small property, but if you compare the footprint of either the Hilton or the Renaissance, it could accommodate a building of similar size.

Jay Cochrane equipment gone

Last Thursday when I was out and around, the towers and wires used for Jay Cochrane’s skywalks were taken down.

The concrete blocks that were on the sidewalks are gone, but the blocks that were on private property are still there

You can see them taking down the tower closest to the Skylon Tower

The tower at the corner of Murray Hill and Fallsview Blvd (next to Wolfgang Puck’s) was already down

Other than the few remaining concrete blocks, there are no other signs now that Jay Cochrane was here.

Canada - Niagara Falls at night

This is a Multiply blog posting where a person talks about their trip to Niagara Falls. As usual, there are some nice accompanying pictures.

After a short rest, we drove towards the town area - Clifton Hill. It is like a mini Hollywood, San Francisco bay area, a more upscale Bintang Walk…crazy fun!!

Council OK’s wedging hotel into small site

From Niagara This Week:

Despite “uniquely strong” opposition from city staff, council gave the go-ahead for the densest hotel development in the city — one which could also have dramatic adverse environmental affects for Fallsview Avenue.

But the developer says the major impact can be corrected during the design phase and the 383-room, 30-storey Hampton Inn development at 6505 Fallsview Boulevard means more jobs and more tax revenue for the city.

“This is exactly where this type of development should be and is needed,” said Italia Gilberti, the lawyer for Victor and Carmen Menechella, the hoteliers who want to build the hotel.

City planning staff advised council to deny the proposal because the hotel doesn’t have adequate setbacks, is not supported by the architectural peer review board and could create potential wind problems.
