Top section taken down at Table Rock?

As the expansion of the 38 million dollar complex is coming to its final stages.  One of the final sections left to complete, is the construction forming the upper part of the steeple (as seen here.) However as you can see it has been taken down. This could mean one of two things, that it has been scrapped altogether? Or that it is easier to finish framing from the ground, and then hoist back up once completed. Either way it is a beautiful addition to the parkway.

  1. i think it looks kinda lost without the lid on it….i know i was dissapointed after all the big deal made about the *clock tower*..whatta letdown when i first saw it…they could’ve at least made the face alot bigger…it’s kinda hard to see from the road…

    🙂

  2. This was in the Review story about the clocks:

Four custom-designed Verdin Prestige Series Tower Clocks, each three feet in diameter, were put into operation.

“We’ve built them especially for the weather conditions that are here in Niagara Falls,” said Ernie Houthuyzen, regional branch manager for Verdin.

“We had to protect the clocks from the constant moisture and condensation issues, and that’s why we’ve built heaters in each one along with their own ventilation system.”

The clocks are powered by 120 volt electricity and have a master controller: If the power goes out, a small computer knows how long it was out for and moves the hands ahead 10 times as fast as normal until the clock catches up. It also resets automatically for daylight savings time.

“We also have a GPS sensor so that once per day it will check with the satellites for the time signal. And if it needs to make any minor corrections, they will be made,”

When you think of the conditions that they have to endure, maybe bigger would have been prohibitive.

  3. Wow I didn’t even notice the clocks until reading the comments. I guess they didn’t want to drive business away from the floral clock 😛

  4. I’m still confused. Is this the “clock tower”? Are those clocks 3-feet in diameter (they don’t look like it)? If it is the clock tower, are those clocks just temporary?

  5. Yes it is Graham. Unfortunately that is the permanent clocks on the the tower, and they would be lucky to be 1 foot in diameter from my est.. In the link above (as seen here) the image has a nice old world charm, which is not as obvious when close up. However images always look nicer then the fished product and it is still a beautiful addition none the less.

  6. I agree that it looks very nice, but I was just trying to figure out why the Review would have put in that they were 3ft in diameter when obviously they aren’t.
