A few more notes that I’ve been able to find out about Dean Sullivan’s jump:
- Apparently on the 10th floor of the Fallsview Casino there is a viewing area. It was full of people, including other camera crews.
- He had on some thick plastic protection around his sides (similar to hockey equipment) and the friction from the rope almost burned/melted through the plastic.
- He hit the ground harder than expected.
- The delay in jumping was because of the media. It wasn’t really a public event. They wanted to get media attention for the Daredevil Days jump he will be doing.
- He was put up in the Sterling Inn and Spa.
Someone with a Blogger blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:
Thursday: We drove up to Niagara Falls, where we crossed the border into Canada to see the Canadian side of it (which is better). We rode the Maid of the Mist to the bottom the the falls and got soaked! Well, Mom didn’t, she pretty much kept her poncho on.. We went to the American side after that and just looked off the top, it was nice to feel the breeze and the mist.
Someone with a Live Journal blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:
Woke up Monday morning early and got ready for the day. Left Derek sleep a little longer while I got ready and then we left about 1030am to start our walk out to Clifton Hill. That’s the tourist area that we missed last year. We spent all day at Clifton Hill, went to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, the Louis Tussaud’s Wax museum and Movieland wax museum, played putt-putt mini golf, rode the Skywheel (giant enclosed ferris wheel that goes up 175ft) and got our hands casted in wax. White wax, filled with wax so they are solid and not hollow like you could get…. glazed and ready for Daddy to paint “1st Year Anniversary Derek & Samantha 07/07/07″ on it or something like that. If the place we did it at did the lettering it was 40cents PER LETTER. Holey kau! So yeah, Daddy’s gonna do it for us.
After we finished up at Clifton Hill, we walked back to the hotel and went out to dinner at Red Lobster (yeah yeah it’s normal for us, not a “new” restaurant we can be disappointed at) and came back to the hotel to go BACK out to Clifton Hill to pick up our wax hands.

Last week I received a press release from Mike Rizzo, owner of The Mob Tours:
Things have always been a little different in Niagara Falls, New York. From the thundering cascades and honeymoon trips to Love Canal, the city has usually walked to the beat of a different drummer. To that end it’s no surprise that local tour company The Mob ToursTM would “celebrate” the demise of one of their most colorful characters.
This Saturday they “will remember former Niagara Falls mob boss Stefano “the Undertaker” Magaddino on the 24th anniversary of his death”. I’ve updated The Mob Tours press release if you are interested.
From the Niagara Falls Review:
As the steel boat chugs towards the 52-metre wall of rushing water, the passengers begin a steady chant of cheers.
In unison, they pull the hoods of the blue raincoats over their heads.
As the boat came within 75 metres of the mighty Horseshoe Falls, the raincoats didn’t offer much protection from the driving spray.
With 748,000 gallons of water rushing over falls every second, remaining dry was not an option for these folks.
“They have a riot out there,” said Gary English, a captain with the Maid of the Mist, as the crowd erupted in another loud cheer as the boat slowly turned sideways.
“As long as they get wet, everyone’s happy.”
