Away for a few days…

I will be out of town until late Tuesday night, so I won’t be able to post anything new Monday or Tuesday. However, I will setup a couple of my outstanding posts to post automatically, so there still will be a couple of things posted.

Have a great weekend!

Hilton Height

As many of you noticed, Vince DiCosimo Jr left a comment on my last posting about the Hilton progress. I emailed him and asked about the height of the building and this is his response:

It is every difficult to explain floors as not all the floors in the hotel are the same height. You will notice when looking at the building the lower floors are almost three stories in height for each floor. The typical room floor height is 8 feet but we do have several room floors in the building which are closer to 12 ft for mechanical reasons. With all that being said, I would say the building will be 53 stories in height which includes some higher floors at the top for mechanical and roof.

It’s still confusing to me, but we’ll go with the 53 number from now on. Incidentally, Vince said after Labour Day he’d take me through the building…

Feeling Niagara Falls

From the Sharon Herald (in Pennsylvania):

People only get a few chances in a lifetime to experience the awesomeness of nature, and visiting Niagara Falls is one of those, said Jonathan Fister, executive director of Keystone Blind Association, Sharon.

That’s just one of many reasons the association is taking its Keystone Kids to the falls and Toronto at the end of the month.

License Plate Hunt

You’ll notice a new page listing at the top of the blog called License Plate Hunt. I explain more on that page, but I’ve decided to record the various license plates I see with the expectation that I’ll be able to see almost all province and state license plates. Who knows… it may be unlikely, but I may see them all. I may even see some foreign ones.

I just started the list, so it is fairly short (but considering that it was only from one day, it’s still a fairly good list). Check out the page and feel free to help…

Glenn’s BabySpace Page: Our trip to Niagara Falls

Someone with a Blogger blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls (including a couple of pictures):

We spent Saturday at the falls, walking around Clifton Hill.

Council says change needed at parks commission

From Niagara This Week:

The Niagara Parks Commission must be more open with the public when awarding contracts to private businesses, especially to the Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co., say Niagara Falls councillors.

If the commission is unable to do that, council has requested the provincial government step in.

“When you get to the parks commission, you sign this document of confidentiality and secrecy so you can’t really speak about what’s going on,” said Coun. Carolynn Ioannoni.

The commission can hold private meetings whenever it chooses and the details of those meetings are kept confidential.

This agreement is what protects any information from being divulged about the lucrative 25-year contract the commission has with the company, said Ioannoni. She said those details should be public.
