Trudeau, Niagara Falls among top Canadian icons, poll finds

From CBC.ca:

Picture this mental image: Former prime minister Pierre Trudeau stands with his back to the thundering waters of Niagara Falls, clutching a red maple leaf in his hand. On Canada Day.

Can you imagine a more Canadian scene? Only if the robotic space Canadarm somehow snuck into the frame, according to a recent poll.

The Ipsos-Reid survey, on behalf of the Dominion Institute and the federal Department of Citizenship and Immigration, asked Canadians what best defines their country.

After tallying the results, Trudeau was revealed as the person who most defines Canada. Niagara Falls was the defining place, Canada Day the defining event, Canadarm the defining accomplishment and the maple leaf was the defining symbol.

Tourists in Niagara Falls want more to experience

From the Buffalo News:

The tethered balloon on Rainbow Boulevard is grounded.

The doors to the family fun center in the old Wintergarden are locked.

The aerospace museum on Third Street has packed up its collection and is planning a move to Buffalo.

At a time when state and local officials are vigorously focused on developing the tourism economy in Niagara Falls, three family-oriented attractions within walking distance to Niagara Falls State Park permanently closed during the off-season.

Lancastria.net - Niagara Falls

I can’t find any information about who’s site this is or what the purpose of it is, but someone has posted some information about Niagara Falls as they were planning on going there:

Tomorro we shall be going to Niagara falls, with the aim of seeing the falls at night, and to see some of the locations of the 1953 film Niagara…

Daytrippers explore Niagara Falls area

From the Buffalo News:

They bounded off the plane, beaming and undaunted by the rain, eager to jam as much sightseeing and enjoyment as they could into one day.

The city’s first planeload of “daytrippers” arrived at Niagara Falls International Airport on Thursday from the Chicago area in what could be the beginning of a profitable relationship between the Niagara Falls airport and the equally under-used Chicago Rockford International Airport.
