I’m sure we’ve all seen some tacky, useless, or otherwise dumb souvenirs in our time. The manager of the Canada Trading Company was getting rid of some samples she had received and she gave them to me. Most of them weren’t Niagara Falls related, but here is one worth sharing:

A few questions:
- How do they know the wood went over Niagara Falls? (There are trees all along the gorge)
- Does ending up cut into pieces and sold count as surviving?
- Who buys this stuff?
Lastly, hopefully this post will inspire you and bring some things back to your remembrance. Share with us some of the tacky/useless and otherwise dumb souvenirs you’ve seen, and let us know which (if any) you’ve purchased.

When my wife and I got married (oh so many years ago), we bought all our attendants the customary gifts, but then thought that since we were getting married in Niagara Falls, we should do something different. So we had a great time going to all the souvenir stores and finding the tackiest NF things we could find (snow globes, thermometers, etc.) and then wrapping them up nicely and handing them out at the rehearsal. The looks on the faces as our friends opened their ’special’ gifts were absolutely priceless.
lol drafty…i have an entire drawer full of tacky stuff..pens..notepads..can openers..glasses and coffee mugs commin out my ying yang..and about 38 decks of cards…and my granddaughter has at least 8 niagara falls tshirts..lol..i’m guilty of liking the tacky stuff…lol
I have soo many of those bottle of Niagara Falls Water from Niagara Parks that claim it went over the falls. I love giving them as gifts.
Well, I’m only slightly embarrassed to say that I would have bought a couple of the Whirlpool Wood keychains if I had seen them. I’ve got a weakness for the schlock, myself.
My favorite, which has always been on display in my home, is a gold-colored, plastic, 16″ tall x 6″ across model of “The Seagram Tower” (with a coin slot in the top to use as a bank). When that tower (now the Minolta) was built in the early 60’s, I was in my very early teens, and I thought it was THE most beautiful building I had ever seen. It was certainly the tallest bldg in the Niagara area! Nowadays, it seems a little lost among all the construction of the last several years.
Ive got a glass thats in the shape of the skylon tower that I found at a yard sale, kind of fitting for me heh.
I would check the manufacturer on those pieces of wood, if it says “made in china” you know something is up, lol.
I’d say its pretty hard to top the “actual NF water” bottles, especicially the “color night time water” versions.
My god… it didn’t say “Made in China” on the back, like oh-so-many souvineers that you THINK come directly from the area.
I don’t think I can say what the tackiest Niagara souvenir I’ve ever seen is in mixed company. Let’s just say it’s a mug geared toward our gentlemen friends. Why, oh WHY did someone think slapping “Niagara Falls” on that would be a good idea?
But i think the favorite I’ve ever owned was a plastic fan with a circular picture of the different attractions on each section. it looked exactly like the fan on this page…but with niagara stuff on it. I can’t believe i found this!
