U.S. wavers on passport plan

From Niagara This Week:

A plan to require anyone crossing the border into the United States from Canada to have a passport could be revamped to explore enhanced drivers’ licences, says the head of U.S. Homeland Security.

Michael Chertoff, secretary of the agency pushing for the passport requirement as a means to beef up border security, said in a visit to Buffalo Monday he might be ready to look at high-tech licences instead.
