Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

pirates_of_the_caribbean_at_worlds_end-poster.jpg

Some of you may recall that there was some filming being done in Niagara Falls for footage that would be used in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. I posted about it a couple of times in October of last year. As far as I know, the movie doesn’t have anything to do with Niagara Falls, but they were shooting footage of a waterfall. I haven’t seen the movie. Has anyone out there seen it? Did you notice any scenes that may have been from Niagara Falls?

Summer Getaways in Niagara Falls

On Saturday I received an email from Canadian Niagara Hotels (Falls Avenue) regarding some packages they are promoting for couples as well as families.

Final day for Seven Wonders voting

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Safeguarding Niagara Falls’s spot among Canada’s most notable sites is down to the final hours. After two weeks of getting the vote out in the CBC’s Seven Wonders of Canada contest, the polls close at midnight.

“There’s nothing else we can do. Everybody has done all they can do,” said Coun. Jim Diodati, who led the charge from city hall to mobilize supporters of the falls.

Students took home flyers reminding their families to vote. Banners went up advertising the link to vote. Facebook.
com users created groups to discuss the merits of the falls and to promote voting.

But there’s still one more day to get last-minute votes in, Diodati said.

New Galaxy Golf mural

It looks like the new mural is complete on the side of Galaxy Golf. It looks quite nice, although I’m not sure if this was supposed to increase business or if they are just trying to do something different each year. It’s a space scene with a trail of fire coming from the golf ball that is at the corner of the building.

Chocolate Candyland

There is (or will be) a new candy store where the former Teddy Town used to be (under Burger King on Clifton Hill):

Chamber survey reveals disappointment with casinos’ impact on city

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Niagara Falls has not experienced the kind of benefits from hosting casinos the province of Ontario promised and the government should re-evaluate its casino policies, a survey conducted by the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce suggests.

“I don’t feel the community is getting the bang for the buck that it should, but I totally understand where the casino is coming from,” said Jeff Wallis, a former chairman of the chamber, whose sign company has done a lot of work for the casinos over the years.

Shoeless Joe’s is open

I haven’t been inside yet, but I did notice a week or two ago that Shoeless Joe’s is now open. The patio looks nice and people are using it.

What a beautiful, clear day!

Yesterday was a beautiful Spring day, and today is just as nice. I took my camera with me as I walked around Clifton Hill, the Parkway, and Murray Hill and took these pictures:

Clifton Hill Fun Pass

I recently found a Clifton Hill Fun Pass on the ground. This is the combo/extra value pass that is available on the south side of Clifton Hill (the HOCO properties). For $25 you get access to 1 mini-putt (Dinosaur Park or Galaxy Golf), the Movieland wax musuem, the Niagara SkyWheel, the 2 attractions in the Great Canadian Midway (Ghost Blasters and Cosmic Coaster) and some tokens (instead of admission to the Falls Tower Ride). It’s a very good deal and the attractions are fun.
