My mom and I have seen the inside. I hate to say we were not impressed on several levels. First we were to be seated in the area where the sun was beating in on the street side near the windows. It would have been a nice view, but we didn’t want to bake. We asked to be seated out of the sun, but even near the entrance there was such a glare if you were facing the windows, it was uncomfortable.
It’s a sports-themed restaurant, so an up side was that every booth had a TV that had three channels available. Hockey, Hockey and…probably usually more hockey. BUT we were lucky enough to be there just as the Preakness was starting, and it was available on one of the stations. The down side - no sound unless you wanted to turn it up loud enough to disturb other tables.
We settled on burgers, which, at a sports-themed restaurant, should have been excellent. I hate to say that I’ve had much better. We did have some decent french onion soup, though. No dessert. I was craving some maple ice cream from downstairs. : )
To top it off we got the bill and found not the usual two taxes, but an additional one as well. When we asked about it, we were told that it was a donation to the sports charities that Shoeless Joe’s supports. “I can take it off if you want…”. So what are you going to say to that without looking like a heel? Maybe every one else on the planet knows about this policy, but we didn’t. I think we should have been advised of the “donation” before we ordered.
Anyway… that’s my two cents on Shoeless Joes. If you’re a sports fan who loves the sun and orders somethig other than burgers, you’re good to go. Unfortunately, my mom and I aren’t any of those things.
That donation charge is an awful thing to do to someone. Its like you said it doesnt do anything but set the person up to look bad if they refuse it. There are plenty of burger/bar food joints in the area, so I think I will stay away.
I agree, that donations need to be more voluntary. Air Canada is doing this “green plan” for their Vancouver-Montreal trip where you spend an addition $12 or so, the cost of replacing the damage to the environment you have done by flying. It is completely voluntary, and you select the option yourself.
I’d still like to try it out, but I guess I won’t be having a burger.
In other news, Pazzo Matto in the casino food court has been rebranded to Mamma Mia’s which has a store on Victoria. I don’t know if they are affiliated or not.
Mom and I noticed the Mama Mia’s, too! If logos say anything - it’s the same people as the one on Victoria. That restaurant has been there as long as I can remember. If it’s an independent - God bless them for giving it a go in the casino!!! We’ve eaten at the Pazzo Matto and enjoyed it…I’ll give Mama Mia a try though. If they’ve lasted that long on Victoria…they’ve got to be good!
Mama Mia’s on Victoria Ave. - it’s been open for over 40 years - and the one at the Casino are owned by the same people. They also own Carpaccio’s on Lundy’s Lane and Dorchester Rd. that’s very popular with the locals. It has great food at reasonable prices.

It was at my suggestion that we try “Shoeless Joe’s.”
When I try a new restaurant, I will order a burger first. If you can cook a great burger, I will return!!!
What Karen and I got was a dry, crunchy burger just a bit short of this side of shoe leather.
That was a terrible thing to do to an Angus Burger!!!

Lastly, I had to post this even thought it’s not the falls (Fort Erie is close enough)

It looks like the casino may have some new competition
