City, casinos forge new ‘spirit of co-operation’

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

The next time Falls Management Co., does its annual “attitude survey” of Niagara’s 5,000 casino workers, the company will share the results with Ontario infrastructure minister David Caplan, who oversees Ontario’s gambling industry.

Clare Copeland, Falls Management’s chief executive officer, made the offer Thursday during a meeting with Caplan and Niagara Falls politicians, who were looking for ways to improve the relationship between the casinos and their host community.

“The message was pretty clear today. There has to be a better employer-employee relationship,” said Niagara Falls MPP Kim Craitor, who added he has received 300 complaints from employees and former employees in the past four months. Craitor and city councillors said they field too many calls about reduced hours, working conditions and the casinos’ use of contract workers.
