Tourism study has to guide us down a path to innovation

From an editorial in the Niagara Falls Review:

Former finance minister Greg Sorbara brought his travelling tourism recovery mission to Niagara earlier this week, and the challenge to him is clear: He must come

up with an original, forward-thinking strategy that will break new ground to ensure Ontario can get its fair share of the burgeoning tourist trade.

Sorbara is on a 10-city tour as chairman of the Ontario Tourism Competitiveness Study.

“Tourism is going to be a very important component of the Ontario economy over the course of the next two decades,” Sorbara told The Niagara Falls Review, before meeting behind closed doors to hear presentations from some Niagara tourism operators.

Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci referred to the group as the nucleus of tourism in the Niagara region.

From what we’ve been able to determine, Salci told him that whatever the province invests in Niagara, the private sector responds to overwhelmingly.

That is clear, especially in Niagara Falls.
