‘Magical’ memories inspire collector

I know this isn’t directly related to Niagara Falls, but I also know there is a lot of interest in the old amusement parks…

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

To the untrained eye, the pile of wood lying in the back of Rick Doan’s backyard in south Fort Erie probably looks like rotting boards.

The once bright-yellow paint is flaking and has faded over time, and likely served as a shelter for many a rabbit or other wild animal over the years given its proximity to the vegetable garden.

But Doan can close his eyes and imagine what that pile of wood used to be. And, what one day it will become.

“That’s what’s left of the Giant Coaster” from the old Crystal Beach Amusement Park, he says. “When they were going to tear it down, they said ‘Come and take what you want.’ So I went out with a chainsaw and my trailer and I went crazy for a couple of hours.”
