How was that for a headline?!
Well, yesterday I went to Marineland. Here is the update (click on the picture to see a larger version):
To no one’s great surprise, there has been no progress.
I’ll post a few more pictures and a video from our visit later in the week…

Is that a land shark in the background!?!?!
yay! still nothing! lol
WOW!
I asked one of their more senior employees there and I don’t mean by seniority or position held lol I mean the guy was old but working at Marienland so I figured he would give me an honest answer so anyway I asked….
“That massive area over there that looks like a canal dug out is that supposed to be this long awaited river wilderness ride and that big aquarium?”
He said….
“Yes but it’s been put on hold for quite sometime because every year since SARS tourism has taken a hit especially now with us being in a recession I honestly think it will never be built infact the owned has put a halt on anything new here at Marienland!”
So yeah that was my scoop and if it’s true it’s backwards thinking if you ask me because if you build it they will come. If he lets the park sit as the same old people will not spend money there when the economy is in a downturn but they will still come out if there is a big new attraction just look at Wonderland and their new mega coaster they are having record breaking attendance!
If people (in this industry) are still putting the blame on SARS they really need to be fired (not talking about this senior man). StEC, your example of Wonderland is perfect. Wonderland continues to add new attractions in a growing market and has reaped the rewards.
Marineland has become complacent and needs to kick things up. I just hope HOCO gets going on their amusement park because competition in the end is good for Niagara.
wonderland business, courtesy, and pace (quick lines, etc.)
have improved so much since the old ownership (Paramount) and the new ownership (cedar fair). CF as definitely boosted the line wait times from 1 hr to 30 mins, which is great! i’m going to wonderland today, and, really, the only thing that hasn’t changed is scenery levels (besides the mountain, not that much< but still love that place!)
i love marineland, i love the atmosphere it creates, but adding one new ride every 3 years doesn’t cut. great place, though!
ps. even though behemoth is new, the wait isn’t that long, probably because there is 3, 32-passenger trains, which is 96 people in about ten minutes. 30 minute wait max.
