Pilgrim Restaurant closing?

I have nothing official to back this up, but I thought I’d pass along what I’d heard…

The Pilgrim Restaurant on Clifton Hill will be closing for good on October 15. As was discussed (see this comment and the ones that follow) back in January/February, the Hilltop Motel building was sold. There was some thought that the leases of the various tenants all had several years left. What I heard was that the leases were supposed to be extended, but weren’t. Supposedly the hotel on the top of the building was in terrible shape and water would leak into the restaurant. It could be that because of health & safety regulations, the lease was terminated.

If anyone knows any details, leave a comment. I’ll post more when/if I find out more.

Lodge Near the Falls or Country Hearth Inn & Suites or Lodge Inn & Suites

Come on, can’t this place make up its mind? The former Travelodge that became the Lodge Near the Falls that became the Country Hearth Inn & Suites that became the Lodge Near the Falls now has a sign out front that says Lodge Inn & Suites.

Clifton Hill Resorts Update - July 2007

Last Friday I received the latest issue of the Clifton Hill Resorts Update newsletter. They are promoting the same packages they always promote. In fact, the newsletter has hardly changed at all during the last 6 months. I think it’s time they started to change the look and feel of the newsletter.

Let Jay walk over falls: City

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Jay Cochrane says he wants to wirewalk into the history books, becoming the first person in 110 years to walk a tightrope over the Niagara River. City council agrees and endorsed the idea because it would give tourism a shot in the arm.

“It has been more than 100 years since a walk has been done near the falls,” Cochrane said Tuesday, the day after councillors backed his dream of walking a wire from Goat Island on the American side of the Niagara River to the top of the Skylon Tower on the Canadian side.

Councillors voted Monday to send a letter to the Niagara Parks Commission, requesting commissioners give Cochrane their blessing to attempt the feat.

The commission needs to reconsider its opposition to his kind of show, Cochrane said.
