Confusing passport situation just got worse

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

Tourism advocates in Niagara say Friday’s decision by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security to temporarily suspend the need for Americans to have a passport to return home after a trip to Canada or Mexico is going to make an already confusing situation even worse.

“It definitely adds to the confusion,” said Niagara Falls Tourism executive director Anna Pierce.

The decision came after American travellers, frustrated their travel plans may be quashed because of the length of time it takes to obtain a passport, complained to state and federal politicians. The suspension is intended to clear the backlog of applications while the U.S. government tries to process applications more quickly.

But it won’t apply to everyone.
