Mayor Worried Casino Niagara Could Close

From WNED:

The mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario is worried that his city may lose 2,000 gambling jobs if Casino Niagara is closed.

Mayor Ted Salci says there’s a possibility the Province of Ontario wants to close the original Casino Niagara and focus all of its efforts on the vast Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort.

Salci admits Casino business isn’t what it was, with more competition and tighter border controls keeping Americans and American dollars away, but he says the economic impact of Casino Niagara is still important.

Hello Mayor!!! Give us Maple Leaf Village back with better quality/unique shops. Look at the Forum Shops in Vegas…the new Pier in Atlantic city. I’m not saying Versace - but nice, quality boutiques and souvenir shops that tend to flourish around gaming. Fallsview has messed that up - someone needs to do it right.

P.S. It probably takes 2000 people to run a mall.

    Hi, Karen!

I just know you were chomping at the bit for an opening like that!!!

Ah-h-h….the return of Maple Leaf Village! Judging from past posts, a lot of visitors would love to see that again.

As much as Id like MLV to return, I strongly prefer CN to Fallsview, so Im hoping this doesnt happen.

I travel to Niagara one time per month to visit the old casino. I actually prefer this casino to the fallsview. If they want more business they should to keep the casino open they need to change their laws and allow smoking. Well all I can say is if casino niagara closes I will go to seneca new york and lets face it I probably won’t come into canada to see the other attractions but once a year!!!!

Can it get any worse? I am from the US and I used to love to go to Niagara, Canada. I love the old casino and find the newer one too bright and Vegas like. The staff is much more courteous at the old casino and it is a great location with Clifton Hill being right there. First Canada takes away the smoking privlige and then they wonder why the casino’s aren’t making the money they used to. Wake up Canadian Government before it’s too late and you close both casinos!

Agreed with all of your points. I do not smoke, so I like the non smoking rule. But, I have heard from many who do smoke and like the free drinks an d smoking you can get at Seneca and those people go there for gaming. Maybe they could create “smoking floors” at the casino? Or make Casino Niagara a smoking casino while leaving fallsview non? I think Ontario’s laws would prohibit that though?
