Regis and Kelly’s Canadian love-in

From the Toronto Star:

So much for tighter border control: Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa have slipped into the country.

For the first time in a decade, Live with Regis and Kelly will be on location in Canada, shooting two shows at the Oakes Garden Theatre in Niagara Falls (CTV, 9 a.m. live today; taped for tomorrow).

Which raises the first question: why?

“I have a love affair with Canada!” exclaims Ripa. “And this is my first official trip as a goodwill ambassador for Live.”

Chat show darlings Regis and Kelly make a splash at Niagara Falls

From Yahoo! News Canada:

Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, the darlings of America’s No. 1 morning talk show, were in Niagara Falls, Ont., on Monday, where they nearly overshadowed one of the seven wonders of the world.

Fans came from far and wide - some lining up as early as midnight - to watch two tapings of the show.

Philbin came out during the first taping at 9 a.m. that aired live Monday waving a Canadian flag.

A second taping at 11 a.m. will air Tuesday.

Executive-producer Michael Gelman said moving the show from its New York City studio was like “producing on a shaky tightrope.”

American TV talk-show hosts Regis and Kelly make a splash at Niagara Falls

From Yahoo! News Canada:

Some 6,000 people came from as far as Ohio to shiver and scream as part of the audience for American TV talk show darlings Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa.

Fans, mostly from Ontario and New York state, began lining up at midnight for front-row seats on the lawn for two tapings of Live with Regis and Kelly - one that aired Monday, and a second taping at 11 a.m., to air Tuesday.

Most audience members got free tickets from the show’s website or through area radio station raffles. But a few die-hard fans paid as much as $350 for their tickets on EBay.

Live with Regis & Kelly in Niagara Falls

WHEC TV-10 doesn’t really have a story about Regis & Kelly in Niagara Falls, but they do have a couple of nice pictures I haven’t seen elsewhere along with a nice video.

Live, from the Falls, it’s Regis and Kelly

From the Buffalo News:

Marian Fisher’s lips were blue. Her fingers were stiff. She had never been happier.

That’s because after waiting in a gusty wind for two hours as the temperature rose to 46 degrees Monday morning, the Buffalo woman and 1,000 others got to play a part in the “Live with Regis and Kelly” show.

It wasn’t a large part. Packed onto the damp grass of the Oakes Garden Theatre, the crowd whooped and hollered on command as the cameras beamed the scene across the continent. Posed against the backdrop of the Horseshoe Falls, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa drew cheers with every jibe.

Canadian people are so nice, Philbin said after a commercial break. “A woman came up to me and gave me her gloves.”

“And you took them!” scolded Ripa.

“I wanted her coat,” Philbin deadpanned, and the largely Canadian crowd roared again. Philbin drew a cheer for holding up a Sabres jersey and praising the team, but it paled beside the ovation a Victoria Day reference provoked.
