Mid-May 2006 Clifton Hill Resorts Update newsletter

Yesterday I received another issue of the Clifton Hill Resorts Update newsletter. It contains much of what it always does (I didn’t notice any new information).

One thing I did notice however, was that the same family that is in the ad for Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf in the Attracions Niagara Coupon Book I posted about is in the ad for the Great Canadian Midway. The image is reversed, but it is exactly the same:

Funny! How’d they get the family to do the exact same pose ? :-)

As always, you can subscribe to the Clifton Hill Resorts Update newsletter by visiting the Clifton Hill Newsletter page.

Baskin Robbins curb changes

Back in March there was a city meeting about creating a separate property by Baskin Robbins on Victoria Avenue. I don’t know where this property is going to be, but I have noticed that they have moved the curb out to remove the street-side parking in front of Baskin Robbins:

I don’t know if this is the separate property (for a kiosk maybe?), but we’ll see…

TGI Friday’s patio

As regular commenter Dan told us, the additional facilities at TGI Friday’s on Victoria Avenue will indeed be a patio. They’ve started work on it:

Skylon Tower sign on Murray Hill

Over the last few days the Skylon Tower has been putting up a new sign at their Murray Hill driveway. It is one of those signs where vertical slats rotate so the sign can actually show a few different things.

Attractions Niagara Coupon Book 2006

You’ll see this coupon book everywhere. I skimmed through the booklet, and have a few observations:

  • Including the covers, there are 32 pages.
  • The cover has a collage of the Skylon Tower, fireworks over the Falls, and some Beluga whales and Walruses from Marineland. It is an attractive cover.
  • The next 10 pages are all about Marineland.
  • There are 4 pages of ads for the HOCO attractions. There is a 2-pages ad for the new Niagara SkyWheel. It is the same ad that I complained about before. The Ferris wheel itself looks beautiful, but I don’t think the woman and young boy say anything about the ride.
  • There is an ad for Movieland. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I quite like Movieland, and think the new location is fantastic.
  • There is an ad for Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf. This is pretty much the same ad that they’ve had for a while, but now there is a new family that has been superimposed over the picture. I guess we’re supposed to think that they are together mini-putting, but it doesn’t really seem to fit with the rest of the ad.
  • There are 4 pages for the Niagara Clifton Group attractions: Guinness World Records Musuem, Mystery Maze, Brick City, The Fun House and The Haunted House. Having been to them all, I’d say the Guinness World Records museum is the best one, yet the ad doesn’t do it justice.
  • There are 3 pages of ads for the Ripley’s Entertainment attractions: Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Ripley’s Moving Theatre, and Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks.
  • The remaining 10 pages have full-page ads for The House of Frankenstein, Niagara Go-Karts & Mini-putt, Avaia, Skylon Tower, and Niagara Parks along with half-page ads for the Niagara Falls Aviary, LazerBall, Double Deck Tours, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, IMAX Theatre, Nightmares Fear Factory, Niagara Helicopters, and the Falls 3D/4D Movie at the Skylon Tower. Out of these ads, I only noticed a couple of things. Lazerball claims that they have an indoor skydivin facility coming soon, but they’ve been saying that for a couple of years now. It seems rather misleading. And this was the first time I had heard of the new movie at the Skylon Tower motion theatre. They used to have a movie that had Leslie Nielson in it, and now they have the new movie called Legends of Niagara Falls. Sounds interesting!

As can be expected with marketing material, some things are a bit misleading, but overall the pictures do give you a good idea of what the attraction will be like. Plus, virtually every ad has a $1 or $2 off coupon for the attraction. Never go to an attraction unless you’ve got a coupon!
