2007 Annual Business Development Report

I was browsing the City of Niagara Falls web site today and clicked on the What’s New page. Last Tuesday they released the 2007 Annual Business Development Report. It is a 42-page PDF that covers many of the developments in the city. The Hilton, Fudge Factory, Convention Centre, Topple Tower, and more are covered. Check it out!

T-Shirt Factory

The former teddy bear store which became the former candy store/museum, is now the T-Shirt Factory. This store is located on Oneida Lane underneath Burger King.

Womanist Musings - The Niagara Region Is Not The Honeymoon Capitol

The Womanist Musings web site has a post about some women who have been killed in Niagara Falls. The message is that Niagara Falls isn’t necessarily the family destination you’d expect:

When you think of the Niagara region immediately the mind turns to the majestic falls. Some who have spent more than an afternoon here will think of places like the Welland Canal, The Skylon Tower, Fallsview Casino, Clifton Hill, and maybe even the dearth of reasonably priced hotels, and restaurants. The aforementioned sites are the Niagara region you are supposed to think about. It is what you will find printed in all of those handy little pamphlets, that the tour guides like to give out. Yes the safe family destination, where everything is bright and sunny. What you will not hear about are the women that have been killed here since 1996. What if I were to whisper these names in your ear?

Nothing left to chance in casino kitchens

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Deep below the flashing lights and ringing bells of the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort’s gaming floor is a community unto itself.

Snaking hallways lead to cavernous rooms where thousands of pounds of laundry is washed and dishes are cleaned.

At the epicentre of it all is the kitchen, a sprawling mass of a room done up in gleaming chrome where men and women in white jackets work feverishly for hours on end, chopping, grinding, slicing and dicing through hundreds of pounds of food each day so patrons -and staff -can eat.

It’s a massive undertaking, says Ray Taylor, executive chef for Niagara Casinos.
