Tough act to swallow

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Think your line of work got hurt in the recession? Try sword swallowing.

“The last few years have been tough, economically. People aren’t going to pay $1,000 to have a sword swallower at their kids’ birthdays,” said Vanessa Neil, who shocked a Niagara Falls crowd Saturday when she downed a 24-inch sword in mere seconds.

“Does anyone want to hold it now? You can see what I had for lunch,” Neil said, joking with a crowd at the Ripley’s museum on Clifton Hill after withdrawing the stainless steel weapon from her throat.

Her performance was part of World Sword Swallowers Day which was marked by similar performances at Ripley’s venues around the world at 2:27 p.m., to coincide with Feb. 27’s date -2- 27.
