Wolfgang Puck restaurant closed

Regular contributor Drafty mentioned earlier this week that the Wolfgang Puck restaurant has closed up. It is kind of sad that some of the higher end entertainment is not making a go of it here, such as Cirque Niagara and now this restaurant. I just hope that shows such as Greg Frewin (Beyond Belief) can stay competitive in this environment, or else Niagara Falls may become known as a place that cannot sustain higher value entertainment.

  1. I think the type of establishment makes all the difference in whether it is successful or not. Higher priced restaurants like Canyon Creek, Keg and Copacabana are very successful because they offer a good dining experience for visitors and locals. And the success of the Avalon Ballroom and Silver Mist Productions (as well as Greg Frewin and Oh! Canada Eh) proves that ‘quality’ entertainment can work here. The Avalon, especially, has shown that local people alone were starved for this kind of thing and, with additional venues coming (Convention Center and Hilton), hopefully it can continue.

  2. Too bad Niagara Falls was still not in the building boom of the early 2000’s or this corner property (directly across from the casino) would probably end up with a new hotel on it. *cough* George Yerich!

Yes it is bad that Wolfgang Puck’s is gone after a few short years. But every cloud has a silver lining…

My prediction: a couple of failed restaurants, then when / if the economy / Niagara falls recovers – full demolition of the property followed by construction of something better.

I personally always saw this as a poor use of valuable space (come on, really a restaurant? on a busy corner intersection in the heart of new Niagara Falls?
