From the Niagara Falls Review:
In his state of the city address last year, Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci talked up anticipated federal and provincial investments in a convention centre to lure year-round visitors to the city.
With the funding now securely in place - and Thursday’s expected introduction of the new convention centre president - this year’s speech turned to building more hotels to accommodate the crowds of conventioneers expected to fill it.
“The City of Niagara Falls (issued) more than 1,300 building permits in 2007,” Salci told Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce members at a luncheon at Club Italia Tuesday.
“This reflects an estimated value of construction in our city of nearly $200 million. We have also seen a number of hotel expansions. In 2008, as we look ahead we expect several others to break ground.” Among those projects, he said, are a “major expansion” to the Fallsview Plaza hotel (formerly the Renaissance Fallsview), Dino DiCienzo’s hotel project proposed for the Jolley Cut “and we also have the hotel behind the Courtyard that has been (in development) for a while.”
On Friday I received the latest newsletter from the Radisson Hotel & Suites Fallsview. They are promoting several different Spring packages that include Marineland, Niagara Parks, or other attractions.

You can sign up for their newsletter on their web site.
Travel web site Trifter has an posting about how to get deals in Niagara Falls:
This isn’t penny pinching, its saving enough where you need to so you can have a wonderful, enjoyable vacation in the Canadian City of Love, Niagara Falls.
Whether it is visiting off-season in the wintertime, or in the peak of the summer, in Niagara Falls Ontario, there is always a deal to be found; you just have to look for it. If you do a little bit of research before heading out on the road, you will find hotels, attractions, and restaurants that cater right to your needs.
I commented a few weeks ago that I’ve heard the wind tunnel operating at the new Niagara FreeFall location at the Hooters. As I’ve been near there, I’ve heard it several more times. About a week ago the following ad was in the paper. They must be very close to opening.

Someone with a Blogger blog has posted (with some nice pictures) about a recent vacation:
We bundled everyone up and headed out to view the town. Our hotel was in the Clifton Hill area which is very touristy with tons of lights and attractions.
…
The really neat thing….on the way home from dropping Carl off Val says to me…that was the BEST vacation I’ve ever had. Considering what she’d been through that day and she’d been on Carrie’s Make a Wish trip to Florida/Orlando for 10 days….that’s an awesome statement. Money well spent IMO.
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Police say an unidentified man entered the upper Niagara River about 200 metres south of Table Rock around noon Saturday and was swept over the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
I’m sure you are all familiar with the various satellite image services out there. I’ve used Google Maps before on the blog. Microsoft has Virtual Earth. There are also other sites out there. The problem is, you usually need to load each site and then search separately on each site for locations. If you visit FlashEarth.com you will find a site that lets you easily switch between the different mappings services.

Looking at this screen capture (which isn’t the best since it is so small), you can see a picture of Niagara Falls. The bottom right corner has a search field. The top right corner has a slider where you can zoom in and out. The top left corner contains a list of the different mapping services. This is the cool part. This picture was from Google Maps. All you have to do is click on Microsoft Virtual Earth and the exact same location will be loaded from that site. You don’t have to navigate away to the site. Just click on the different service and it will load in the same window. This lets you easily compare the maps and choose the one that has the best view.
So, other than the Niagara Falls picture above, I checked out the Niagara SkyWheel. I usually use Google Maps, and as you can see, they are still showing the old Golden Griddle.

But using FlashEarth, you can easily switch to Microsoft Virtual Earth, and you can see that they obviously have more up-to-date satellite images. The SkyWheel is there. Cool!

The Boston Globe had a feature on their site the other day that talked about the 14 shows they wished were still on. # 12 was Wonderfalls:
Fox didn’t really give this unique portrait of twentysomething existential angst a fair chance. Caroline Dhavernas (pictured) was a wonderfully offbeat heroine, a 24-year-old college graduate who majored in philosophy and spent too much time pondering her life and looking for direction. In surreal flashes, she got advice from the figurines at the Niagara Falls gift shop where she worked.
