Days Inn Completes Renovations

From Niagara This Week:

The Days Inn Niagara Falls on Victoria Avenue unveiled its new look Wednesday, two days after the chain opened a new location in the Fallsview tourists district.

The 117-room Victoria Avenue Days Inn celebrated the completion of $800,000 in extensive facility and guestroom renovations. These modifications are expected to provide greater value to guests seeking modern and comfortable accommodations at a reasonable price.

“Our newly renovated hotel provides travellers with a refreshed experience,” said Melisa Mancini, the general manager.

we were down for a cpl days for the holiday..we noticed on lundy’s lane..the old east side marios..i can’t remember what it was after tho..manhatten maybe rings a bell..but anyhow..there’s a sign up announcing the new home of quality inn..i’m guessing they’re building it there after the clifton hill quality inn closes…but we did notice there’s already a hotel in behind the building..wonder if it’s coming down too or maybe bulding on to it..?

That property was built as the Park Plaza, with East Side Mario’s as their restaurant. The owners ran into some (unscrupulous I think) dificulty and went bankrupt. The property was in limbo for many years and was resurected as the Niagara Falls Plaza. About this time, East Side Mario’s packed it in, and the restaurant became Manhatten’s, and then morphed again into Cactus Flats, all of which are now closed. The property seems to have been in constant turmoil since it opened, so if someone is coming in with the Quality franchise, that can only be good news. It was a fairly decent hotel with an OK location, so maybe with the proper owners, it can make a go of it.

Its going to be very tough with the dirtiest strip club(SI formerly Concord) in all of Niagara Falls next door for whoever goes in there.

I actually stayed there once, reasonable price east side marios were deciding factors. The strip club was definately a minus, but we gave the hotel a chance. Then one of the waitresses told us about the hookers that hung out accross the street & near a nearby church. THEN we were more concerned. Haven’t been back to that hotel - but would have visited East Side Marios again. I miss that place.

I have a long list of hotels I’ve stayed at - going WAY back
    • The Rex Motel (once)
    • Clover Leaf Motel (site had since become a waterpark and now the outlet mall) (several times)
    • Fiddler on the Green (once) (Remember the Leprechan? Now it’s something else)
    • Flamingo Motel (multiple times - our standard Mom & Pop which was just sold - to not so much Mom or Pop)
    • Courtyard by Mariott (once) (site of former Miniature world)
    • The Brock (once)
    • Sheraton Fallsview (several times)
    • Park Place (once)
    • Embassy Suites (once)
    • Fallsview Casino(several times) …..

I think that’s about it. Isn’t that enough?

Karen, you have the history of Niagara Falls in your resume;). It’s quite a list, but the Rex!!OMG. (actually, it’s still there)

Don’t make me play “things that aren’t there anymore!!!” : ) You could do that every 5 years and have just a few things to recount back in the 80s/early 90s - but now it’s like every 5 months you see closings of things that didn’t even last a year or two. I already miss the cool Canadian artist store at the Casino. But there’s a Cotton Ginny now!!! That’s special. (Please imagine a sarcastic tone to those last sentences.)

I know the Rex is still there….it’s a landmark! Mom and Dad spent their honeymoon there(aaawwwwww), and that was the first place they brought the whole family when we started coming up.

Mom just corrected me that the Clover Leaf is still there in the form an econolodge. The Lundy House was leveled for the waterpark.

Ive stayed at the Flamingo many times, its actually very nice. Sad to see its been sold. I started trying to come up with a ist in my head of places Ive stayed and its way too long, I think its close to 50 believe it or not! Haha, Ive even stayed at the Willow and the Space motel’s really far down on the lane! Space motel was the biggest nightmare as you can imagine:)

……and then, the waterpark was leveled for the Outlet Mall…I think!!!!

  9. 9 niagara

Yes, the waterpark was definitly where the outlet mall is now. I miss the Ground Round right across from there connected to the hotel. Ramada I think,

My husband and I loved the Ground Round…..ate there during every visit!

By the way, have you every had breakfast at the Falls Manor Restaurant? Three of the waitresses know our entire family by our first names and remember what we have for breakfast…no kiddin’!!! We eat there every time we visit the Falls….one of the waitresses thought we were “locals!” lol
