Other than the Falls themselves, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the tourist area is the Skylon Tower. This week I will highlight the Skylon.com web site.

First off, I’m not sure how long the current site has been up for, but it has been a long time. I’m not a fan of the overall look of the site, but it does have a lot of great information.
The site’s navigation is easy to use and let’s you quickly go to the area of the site that you are interested in. You can view information about either dining area, the observation deck, and the shopping areas. You can check the availability of seating on their site as well. They have partnered with a local company to do this. I tried a few dates and times and some were available and some weren’t, so it definitely appears to be checking something.
The two parts of the site that would be most interesting to the average web surfer are the General Info and the Virtual Tours links. When you follow the General Info link, you can find out all of the facts about the tower. When was it made? How tall is it? How fast does the dining room revolve? I used this part of the site when I was doing my postings after my visit. The Virtual Tours section of the site has some nice pictures and videos to give you an idea of what you will see from such a height.

Sites good, but the inside of the facility is a complete dump. This building is one of the biggest if not the biggest let downs in Niagara Falls.
I agree, great site, great information but I am with niagara on this one. This tower is completely dated and dirty on the inside and they have owned this tower since George Yerich bought out John Gruyich’s ownership share of the Skylon for $13 million in cash in 1988. That is almost 20 years of no activity with an investment that I am sure has diminished by this time. The arcade center has never taken off like they had hoped, and even the games are now dated for young children. In my opinion this company has every means at their disposal to re-invent themselves, yet they refuse to come through with any of their proposals for their property, afterall they still reap the rewards of the tourists fascination with this tower. I’m not even sure why they didn’t put up their strands of lights this year. With that said I still love that tower and couldn’t imagine the skyline without it.
When I was a kid I loved it, last summer I went downstairs in the arcade, it was dissapointing. I think if they wanted to they could make something really great out of that place.
Remember, the main draw is the observation deck. Whether it was 20 years ago or yesterday, the view is still fantastic!
Take out current arcade….let Dave and Busters lease it out and do it right!!!
I assume the Skylon must make a killing in the restaurants during the tourist season. As long as there’s a steady stream of tourists paying for the food and view that place will continue to turn a profit with very little improvements to the complex.
It’s a shame, because there’s some much they could do with it. There’s an entire conference floor that’s been boarded off to the public for years. I remember going to car shows there when I was younger, it’s huge.
the view is great, i think what will hurt them now and in future years are the hotels with similar views, granted you wont be able to walk all the way around like you can now. but the other poster is correct, they make money on the restaurant (i believe the food is awful there) so they dont need to change anything to make $$$. its one of the attractions i think people do once, and never go back…but thats just my opinion.
It would be really interesting if Skylon mirrored the Stratosphere in Las Vegas by adding thrill rides. Here is a link to the website showing off their rides:

It would give a whole new reason for people to visit the Skylon and would complement the arcade well. Skylon is sitting on great property and they have a lot of opportunity to make do something great.
niagara falls is amaziming place.we hope skylon tower is open
