Revolutionary Restaurants

This isn’t specifically Niagara Falls related, but I figured I’d include it in case there is anyone interested. American Heritage has an article that talks about the history of restaurants at the top of towers:

Around 1960 John Graham, Jr., a Seattle architect best known for large shopping centers, proposed a tower with a restaurant on the top for the new Ala Moana shopping center in Honolulu. The tower soon changed to a 23-story office building, and a restaurant high up in an office building was nothing new, but this one would be different. Graham later recalled that his partner, Jim Jackson, suggested that the restaurant be made to rotate, so that diners could enjoy the entire panoramic view, from the mountains to Waikiki.

It was an intriguing idea, but not a simple one.

The article mentions the Skylon Tower in passing as it mentions several towers that are “at the top of towers overlooking unusual scenery.”

Eklectibles

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of the old Circus World building on Victoria Avenue and reported that a new store was open. Regular visitor Fallsview let us know a few days later that a sign was up and it was called eklectibles. Fallsview was right, it does look pretty bad on the unfinished exterior. Here’s the sign:

Can’t go over the Falls in a barrel anymore

On Clifton Hill between the Travelodge and one of the haunted houses there used to be a souvenir photo place where you could get your picture take and it would look like you were going over the Falls in a barrel. It’s gone now, and I’m not sure what is replacing it.

Spring flowers along the parkway

Some of the flowers along the parkway have bloomed already.
