Man rescued from brink of Horseshoe Falls

    From the Niagara Falls Review:

After standing at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls for more than an hour staring into the frigid water of the Niagara River, a “despondent” man changed his mind and co-operated with rescuers who pulled him to safety.

Firefighters, Niagara Parks Police and paramedics rescued the unidentified man, who was discovered late Wednesday morning standing on an ice shelf about 50 metres from the brink of the falls.

A passerby noticed the man on the wrong side of the retaining wall, south of Table Rock House at about 11:20 a.m., parks police Insp. Paul Forcier said. A police officer on a tether climbed over the wall and tried to talk to the man. But the man did not respond to the police.
