From Niagara This Week:
f it seems like there are more Yankee and Mets hats among the lot of headgear protecting wearers from the recent frigid sub-zero conditions in the city, it’s all thanks to a push local tourism officials made last year to get more New Yorkers to visit Niagara Falls.
Anna Pierce, executive director of Niagara Falls Tourism, was part of a contingent from the city which went to a tourism summit in the Big Apple before Christmas.
While there, the group set up shop at Bryant Park in Manhattan promoting Niagara Falls while New Yorkers skated by, with hopes of attracting residents of the Big Apple to Queen Victoria Park for New Year’s Eve.
“The whole point was to give out information about the Winter Festival of Lights and winter packages,” said Pierce. “We were trying to get New Yorkers out of New York City and coming to Niagara Falls to play.”
