This isn’t directly related to Niagara Falls, but it’s for a good cause, and is being held in Niagara Falls. I got the following email yesterday:
I saw your Access Niagara site today, and was wondering if it would be possible for you to mention an upcoming charity event that’s happening in Niagara Falls on Friday Feb 23. It’s called “Death to the Highest Bidder” and is being put on by students at Niagara College in support of the Head Injury Association of For Erie. They have a website setup for the event at http://deathtothehighestbidder.com/
If you’re in the area, it looks like it is a murder mystery dinner theatre sort of thing. On the web site it is officially called a Dinner Show and Auction, and as I said, it’s for a good cause.
This morning I received the latest newsletter from the Radisson Hotel & Suites Fallsview. They are promoting Valentine’s Day and Spring Break packages.

You can sign up for their newsletter on their web site.

Amusement Today is one of the major trade newspapers for the amusement industry. I came across their website recently, and noticed that they had yearly awards. I skimmed the page and saw that Marineland was 4th place in the Best Marine Life Park category:
| SeaWorld Orlando |
Orlando, Fla. |
65% |
| SeaWorld San Antonio |
San Antonio, Texas |
15% |
| SeaWorld San Diego |
San Diego, Calif. |
8% |
| Marineland |
Niagara Falls, Ontario (Tie) |
6% |
| Six Flags Marine World |
Vallejo, Calif. (Tie) |
6% |
You can view all the results on the 2006 Golden Ticket Award Winners page.
On page 6 of the November/December issue of Hospitality Technology magazine had a blurb about the Embassy Suites. The news item didn’t have anything to do with Niagara Falls, but the picture they chose to represent Embassy Suites was of Embassy Suites Hotel - Niagara Falls Fallsview.

Nothing earth shattering, but I thought I’d pass it along.
From the Niagara Falls Review:
The Winter Festival of Lights would never take place if it wasn’t for the dedicated work of volunteers, says general manager Dino Fazio.
“When the call goes out for help, people here in Niagara Falls are quick to put their hands up to volunteer and see where they can help.”
Other communities are not always that fortunate, which leaves many organizations struggling from one year to the next, he said Friday night during their annual volunteer appreciation party held at the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel.
“We wouldn’t be here right now going into our 25th year. Many of the volunteers have been with us for 10 or 15 years and some new ones for only a year or two.”
Fazio said this is going to be a big year and people will really take notice. Many of the plans will be unveiled over the next few months and the focus will continue to be on more lights and displays.
Last Saturday I received the latest issue of the Falls Avenue Newsletter. They are highlighting several of their package plans promoting Valentines Day and March Break:

To subscribe, visit their “Spin to Win” page and fill out the form. Be sure to check that you’d “like to receive news on Niagara Falls discounts and seasonal special eMail”.
Back in November I posted about the public meeting that was being held about some changes to the Hilton. The changes were approved and the work has begun. This isn’t a great picture, but if you recall, there used to be a Denny’s beside the Hilton at the corner (see here for a picture). The Denny’s is gone and crews are there clearing the property.

From the Niagara Falls Review:
“See ya tomorrow for my morning breakfast,” yelled one patron as she walked out of Connie’s Regal Coffee Shop Wednesday morning.
Paddy Hall and Linda Clendennin have heard those seven words for more than 20 years working at the Main Street restaurant.
Those light-hearted demands will be a thing of the past come the weekend.
The shop, unique in its long and narrow entrance leading to some booths at the back, will close Saturday. Connie Sticca, the 78-year-old owner, is calling it a day.
