From the Buffalo News:
If you are paying with American money, tolls will increase by 50 cents for passenger cars on the Rainbow, Whirlpool Rapids and Lewiston-Queenston bridges as of Feb. 1.
For those using Canadian money, rates will remain the same.
The prolonged weakness of the U.S. dollar against other world currencies is the reason for the increase, the first since 1998, according to the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission.

It won’t stop us from coming but, With the state of the US dollar in Canada, and with the GST tax rebate being eliminated and prices going up in everything how is most average US families going to get by then factor in the passport situation Canada is giving alot of reason not to come back.
I just wish the hotels and restaurants would lower their prices to make it more affordable for a family to stay longer than a day or so.
I know when we go us in August it costs a mint since there is 6 of us going and even though we plan based on prices from the previous year I know alot of people from here in Rochester that is not willing to pay any more than they have and is now considering for a little more Disney might be the way to go
It’s a good thing I always have spare loonies and twonies when I get home!
While I do enjoy using Canadian dollars - I barely use AMERICAN change, much less anything smaller in Canadian currency. I probably have a good amount lying around in Canadian change. Do they have “coinstars” in Canada??
Lisa,
In regards to the post you made…I wouldnt blame Canada for the way things are going (toll increase, passport law). Id blame American government first, they are the ones who made this situation, but Im going to try to stay away from the political topic. I can only blame Canada for the gst elimination (not a very helpful move while they need all american tourists dollars they can get). The prices in the region are high, because its a tourists destination. I think its pretty even with other tourists cities. If the hotels and business are getting the price they are asking, then all the power to them. When people stop paying, they wont charge the prices they do.
Hi, Everyone!
I, too, like Karen, always have Canadian money so this is no big deal for us……however……did you know……..
Everytime we Americans use our credit cards outside of the US, our banks are now charging us a “Transaction Fee Finance Charge” to the tune of 3% of total for every transaction!!!
So now I make sure I stop in at the Casino, if for nothing else than to exchange some money!!!! Of course, Karen has other plans at the Casino!!!
Karen’s Mom
I DON’T HAVE A “PROBLEM”!!!!! hehe
Hi, Lisa!
I JUST noticed you are from Rochester….exactly where in Rochester?
When we are NOT at the Falls, we ARE in Rochester!!! I have a very close cousin in Greece and we visit her at least 4 times a year, sometime combining visiting with her and then going over to the Falls. We always spend Thanksgiving with her (since 1976) and then go over to see the Festival of Lights.
Small world……….

Twonies. Is that what those are called? I never thought of it until now.
I live in Greece as well by the parkway if you are familiar with it. It is a boring place to live which would explain why I like to go to the falls every chance I get. I too also have many loonies and twonies left over from several of my trips I never use them it seems. I will start using them for tolls to save a little money.
Karen’s Mom: If you have been in Rochester have you seen our dud of a Ferry? It finally left Rochester for good. That was the worse thing to happen to Rochester.
In case some people are not aware. Rochester purchased a Ferry to travel from Rochester to Toronto. After several mishaps, poor management and high fees it never caught on. Then we got a new mayor and pretty much his first order of business was cease operation of the Ferry so it has sat for nearly a year. The engine has had problems more than once it hit the Barge in NYC coming here from Australia you name it the ferry went through it. Well the mayor is trying to sell it to ease the dept this has accumulated and we are waiting for a sale from England. THe ferry left Rochester a few weeks back for Nova Scotia where it will be dry docked and more repairs will be made
Hi, Lisa!
Never saw the Ferry, but heard a lot about it. Probably the closest I ever got to it is when we go to Abbott’s on Sunday evenings down by the Lake for frozen custard!!!
By the way, you Rochester people have the very, VERY best supermarket there is………I would love to get Wegman’s down here in Pittsburgh!!!
My cousin lives off of Latta Road….where are you???
I live on North Park Drive which is about two streets pass Dewey and Latta.
Abbotts by the way was across from the Ferry.
Wegmans is a very nice store and they are branching out. Some even have little eatery’s in the store you can get anything. Fish Fries, subs, soups, Chinese, Wings, Salad etc.
Who knows maybe we have cross paths at one time or another.
Suggestion next time in Niagara Falls give Betty’s Restaurant a try we absolutely love the food and the desserts are to die for.
Lisa, our world is getting smaller! We get gas at Hess’s on Dewey and attend Mass at St. Charles Catholic Church also on Dewey.
Regarding restaurants at the Falls, there is a website…Restaurantica.com……..where there are reviews of various eating places, including restaurants in surrounding towns. I have been checking that lately.
