From the Niagara Falls Review:
For its 24th year, the Winter Festival of Lights is doing some adding through subtracting.
Say goodbye to the weekly night parades after eight years. Say hello to $250,000 worth of new lights, displays and events.
The winter tradition, starting Nov. 4, will include more concerts and activities this year as it gears up for a gala 25th edition next year. And it won’t stop until the event is recognized as the top lights festival in Canada, said general manager Dino Fazio.
“We will keep you busy, no question.”

I know it says it only runs til the 8th, however do they sometimes overlap the dates listed? I think I will be there around the 18th and Im hoping maybe some displays will still be up.
I’ve never known it to go that late into January.
We’ve been to the Falls to see the Festival of Lights. It was a sort of ’spur of the moment’ trip. We didn’t know about the parade though, but were so glad to have been down in the park when it started. We loved it!! We actually were planning, “next time we come for the festival, we’re gonna stand ‘over there’ to watch the parade”. Bummer… But more lights will be awesome!!!
I’ve always thought the emphasis on more lights was over-rated. They are adding LED lights, so even if they add several hundred thousand lights, that is often only 1 large tree that is being covered. Last year they promoted the fact they had more lights, but it didn’t really seem any different than before. They haven’t changed the Disney displays for years, and the moving lights at Dufferin Islands haven’t changed either. I think they need to spend their money on updating these displays before adding more lights to wrap around a tree.
We noticed that on our trip… some of the displays had faded lights and sections that were just not lit at all. Maybe that is why we were so impressed with the parade! The floats were so fancy and new looking, and we’ve never seen anything like them. While we enjoyed the Festival of Lights, we’ve seen better overall displays closer to home. One of my favorite things was the way the Skylon Tower was strung with lights. But then I like the Skylon tower to begin with, it says Niagara as much as the Falls themselves, at least to me.
