Keeping Falls visits flowing in winter

    From the Buffalo News:

Planners on both sides of the river get serious about making Niagara Falls a year-round attraction.

Hotel occupancy around Niagara Falls sizzles at more than 90 percent during the summer months, but after winter arrives, you would be hard pressed to find more than a handful of tourists.

Even the amount of water flowing over the falls is cut in half, to produce more electrical power and slow the erosion of the falls.

But the dark days of winter – which offer one highlight: the ice bridge in the gorge – may be ending. Tourism planners on both sides of the world-famous tourist destination are getting serious about making Niagara Falls a year-round attraction.
