Last weekend was the Victoria Day holiday, and we had amazing weather. I mentioned previously that the Victoria Day weekend in Canada along with the Memorial Day weekend in the US marks the unofficial start of summer.
The weather was kind of flakey all weekend. It would be beautifully sunny, and then it would cloud over and it would rain for a bit, and then the rain would return. It’s good for the gardens, but not great for the tourists. Today was for the most part a beautiful day (although it did rain a bit).

The picture shows the Canadian flag outside the Niagara Parks Police headquarters, the top of the Fallsview Casino hotel (to the left peeking out above the trees), and the Skylon Tower on the right.

I went to Brick City again last Thursday and took some more pictures. You can see them in the Brick City gallery.
The title of this post is from the flier that most Niagara Region residents received advertising the new Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Cafe Tu Tu Tango (they share the same building). I mentioned this before and I’ve now scanned the flier. You can see the scans in the Cafe Tu Tu Tango gallery and the Wolfgang Puck Cafe gallery
As we mentioned previously, what used to be Horror Manor has been renovated and is now the Spicy Olive Bar + Grille. I’m not sure when the exact grand opening was, but it has been open since at least last Thursday. I’ve taken a few pictures, and you can see them in the Spicy Olive Bar + Grille gallery

They have a copy of the menu posted on the outside of the building, and the prices seem very reasonable. It looks quite nice inside, and it’s close to all the action on Clifton Hill.
There are some minor changes being made at the Travelodge at the Victoria Avenue/Ferry Street bend. They have eliminated one of their rooms, and it appears they are going to make either another main entrance or perhaps a retail/concession outlet. The area outside the room used to be a garden, and they have put cement in there as well as in the room at the same level. Doors have been put in as well, where before it was a solid wall.
It seems that most operators like to do this sort of thing. They try to have higher revenue operations at street front, and lower revenue ones back from the street. A room at the Travelodge might pull in only $150 a day, where even a snack bar would pull in much more than that.
When we know more, we’ll post more…
I posted previously that there was some minor construction happening on Murray Hill across from the Fallsview Casino. The work is progressing, and it definitely seems like it is going to be an expansion of the Coco’s patio.
The picture below shows the notice of an application to change the liquor license for that establishment. It is marked that there will be additional facilities:

Note: the application is open for comments until June 26, 2005
The picture below shows a sign describing the existing Coco’s patio:

Note: the addition to the patio is just to the right of this.
As we have mentioned previously, the small strip of land behind the House of Frankenstein on Oneida Lane had applied for a zoning amendment, but it was deferred. At the time we were told that they were just trying to make official what they had already been operating.
Well, I haven’t heard that their application was approved, but they have set up one small attraction anyway. They have a slide setup now.
It is quite probable that this sort of thing doesn’t need the same zoning amendments.
