The daffodils are coming up nicely along the Niagara Parkway. These pictures were taken along River Road right across from the Falls.
Monthly Archive for April, 2005
While I was walking yesterday at lunch, I took a lot of pictures. There are now 724 images in 72 galleries. The main thing was that I took a lot of pictures of restaurants. It seems like Niagara Falls has a restaurant every other store front. I’ve taken pictures of Wolfgang Puck Restaurant (it seems to be open now), restaurants along Ferry Street / Victoria Avenue, and more.
Motion simulator rides seem to be a popular thing in Niagara Falls. It is essentially a roller coaster experience in a confined space. In Niagara Falls there are at least the following simulator rides:
- Ripley’s Moving Theater
- FX Thrill Ride featuring “Robots of Mars” and “Cosmic Coaster”
- Dino Rampage
- Dino Island 3D
- Skylon 4D Theatre featuring “Pirates“
I used to think that 4D (the forth dimension) was time. Apparently in the simulator ride industry, it means something entirely different. The seats move in 3 dimensions (up/down, side to side, forward and back). The movie is in 3 dimensions (you wear glasses of some kind). And the 4 dimension is actually some other scensory experience. It may be wind or it may be very light precipitation (mist or snow). I’ve only been on a 2D simulator. I will be going to the Ripley’s Moving Theater soon and I’ll report back on how it was.
I added scans of a Movieland brochure to the Niagara Falls Attractions gallery.
I added scans of a Zooz brochure to the Other Niagara Region Attractions gallery.
I know I mentioned the AccessNiagara.com Image Gallery before, but there is so much more to say.
I am done putting up all the photos I have from the last few years, and there are currently 48 categories and over 650 images!
There are pictures of St. Catharines, Ball’s Falls, and Other Niagara Region Attractions. But by far the largest section is devoted to Niagara Falls. There are over 300 photos of attractions or scans of their brochures. The attractions include:
- Brick City
- Classic Iron Motorcycle Museum
- Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf
- Falls Tower Ride
- Fun House
- The Haunted House
- Movieland
- Mystery Maze
- Niagara Falls Aviary
- Ripley’s Believe It or Not
- Ripley’s Moving Theatre
- Winter Festival of Lights
And there is over 150 photos of Scenic Niagara Falls and along the Niagara Parkway.
The gallery lets you save images for download, and you can also create e-cards out of any image. Be sure to check it out at http://www.accessniagara.com/gallery/
I have no way to prove this, but I assume that AccessNiagara.com has the largest collection of Niagara Falls and area pictures. And it’s only going to grow!
I woke up early this morning (5:30 am) and it was snowing! A week or so ago we had a record high of about 27° C, and this morning it was snowing. The snow was gone by mid-morning, but it is a wake-up call that it is still early Spring here in Southern Ontario, and we’re not out of the cold yet…
I’ve installed a new gallery for AccessNiagara.com. I’m using 4images and have uploaded over 200 images already. Check it out the Niagara Falls Image Gallery

I don’t know how long it has been around for, but Yahoo! has a section of their site that allows you to look up “dozens of sites for cheap airfaires, hotels, and rental cars.”
I just found Yahoo! Farechase today, and I tested it out by searching for hotel rates in Niagara Falls. The results page shows you a map of the area and the location of the hotels it has found. As it searches you can see the various sites it is searching (travel sites, specific franchise sites, etc.). I don’t know how this compares to other travel sites, but it looks like it would be worth a look when you want to go out of town.

The Maid of the Mist was a 21.67-metre-long steamer that carried hundreds of thousands of travellers to Niagara Falls.
This Friday, Aprill 22, marks the 50th anniversary of a fire that destroyed the popular passenger ships MAID OF THE MIST and MAID OF THE MIST NO. 2. The former was the oldest of the duo and had been built in 1885. The 21.67-metre-long steamer carried hundreds of thousands of travelers to the base of the Niagara cataract for a close-up look view of the thundering waters. The two ships were ashore at winter quarters when the blaze destroyed their wooden superstructures. The remains were scrapped and new vessels were built to continue the popular tradition.
Various books by Skip Gillham, including his new Canadian Liberties On The Lakes, are available at the St. Catharines Museum at Lock 3.
This came out of the St. Catharines Niagara News

Today at lunch Chris and I went through the Fun House on Clifton Hill. I can’t believe there are companies that charge people for such garbage. It took us about 5-10 minutes to walk through the place. Everything looked kind of grungy and many moving parts squeaked. I was severely underimpressed.
Admission is $7.99 for adults or $6.99 for children.
