More Odds ‘n’ Ends

Skylon Tower Christmas Lights are down
The Christmas lights that hang down the Skylon Tower all winter have been taken down.

For some reason I thought they left them up year round, but I guess not. If I would have been more observant to Chris’ picture of the Skylon Tower at night, I would have noticed the lack of lights already.

Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf
The trees at Dinosaur Park are in full bloom

Most of the trees at Dinosaur Park Miniature GOlf are full of leaves now. It is a beautiful mini-putt course.

Another change on Murray Street
More construction on Murray Street

Here is a shot of some more work going on between the Cascade Inn and Coco’s/Holiday Inn on Murray Street across from the Fallsview Casino. This used to be a driveway, but it looks like it’s going to be a patio of some kind.

Some Victoria Day Weekend Observations

We had absolutely beautiful weather on Saturday (22.4° C) and Sunday (15.6° C). Clifton Hill was packed both days, and the traffic getting in and out of the tourist areas was quite heavy. Today on the other hand is cooler (11° C) and there are a lot less people.

As I was out today, I took a few pictures:

The daffodils are almost done
The daffodils that were mentioned previously are almost all gone now.

Tulips in Queen Victoria Park
But the tulips are in full bloom …

Black Tulips in Queen Victoria Park
… including these black ones! (I didn’t know such a thing existed)

Oakes Garden Theatre

Another updated gallery that I put up recently is of the Oakes Garden Theatre. This is a beautiful park at the very bottom of Clifon Hill at River Road.

The Niagara Parks web site describes it in this way:

Oakes Garden TheatreOriginally constructed in 1936, Oakes Garden Theatre was built in the form of an amphitheatre. By capitalizing on the contours of the landscape, a fan shaped curved pergola was constructed. Rock gardens, lily ponds, and shrub borders have all been built around formalized gardens. Queenston limestone was extensively used around the perimeter of the property. Attractive ornamental iron gates were incorporated into the design for aesthetic and functional purposes. The site plays host to concerts throughout the year and provides an attractive formalized entrance statement to Queen Victoria Park.

There are flowers, a pond, a fountain, and a beautiful lawn where you could have a picnic. No wonder people have wedding photos taken there.

Be sure to check out the Oakes Garden Theatre gallery!

Updated Image Gallery

I recently updated the image gallery again. There are now 980+ pictures in 115+ categories. Here are a few highlights:

  • I updated the Niagara Falls in the Movies: Superman II post. In the write-up I mention several daredevil boats that are seen. I’ve included links to pictures of them
  • I have put up a gallery of the Daredevil Exhibit that is located in the IMAX Theatre. There are pictures of boats and barrels as well as the full text of each of the signs. The exhibit is free (you don’t have to see a movie in order to get in). Some people featured include Dave Munday, Annie Taylor, the Hill family, and more.
  • I added a new gallery for the Marvel Super Heroes Adventure City on Clifton Hill / Falls Avenue. This includes the Spider-Man Adventure Ride, the Incredible Hulk Encounter, and the Captain American Games Zone.

There is always new pictures being added, so check back often!
