Two Nations Celebration

This is an unusual year in that July 1 is a Friday and July 4 is a Monday. The Canada Day and Independence Day holidays are the bookends of a long weekend. The Niagara Parks Commission is hosting an event called Two Nations Celebration.

Celebrate the birth of two great nations at the only shared bi-national wonder in North America during the “2 Nation Celebration” in Niagara Falls. Cool activities will take place throughout Niagara Parks during the day and the nights will become hot with spectacular entertainment on the main stage in Queen Victoria Park.

“This great summer line up is the result of tremendous partnerships we have been able to establish this past year” said Jim Williams, Chairman of The Niagara Parks Commission. “Our goal is to make Niagara Falls and certainly Niagara Parks the place to be this summer. Thanks to partners such Niagara’s Casinos, Coca Cola Company, Kodak, Pizza Pizza, Nestle and Cool Brands the 2 Nation Celebration will be a landmark event at North America’s most recognized natural wonder.”

I’ve taken a few pictures of them setting up Queen Victoria Park:

More improvements at Wolfgang Puck Cafe

Doing tiling at Wolfgang Puck Cafe

This isn’t anything earth-shattering, but entertainment and dining establishments are always trying to look a little better. This is a picture of the patio at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. I never thought anything of the cement look that was there (before the patching was done), but it will look better with the ceramic tiles.

Encounter villains, heroes in Marvel Adventure City

Along with the article in the New York Times just mentioned, there was also an article in today’s Washington Times titled Encounter villains, heroes in Marvel Adventure City. The author speaks very highly of the Marvel Super Heroes Adventure City. I have included the beginning of the article below. You can read more on the Washington Times web site.

NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario — The last thing I expected to see a block away from one of the world’s most famous natural wonders was a 23-story building with a gigantic, two-dimensional Hulk bursting from its corner.
Yet there it stood, above the main entrance to Marvel Adventure City, an approximately 30,000-square-foot home to the Marvel Comics universe that mixes a traditional game arcade with multisensory attractions.
As part of the Canadian Niagara Group’s Falls Avenue Complex, the ode to Stan Lee’s favorite comic book company has existed for the past couple of years next to such attractions as MGM Studios’ Great Movie Journey, the World Wrestling Entertainment Pile Driver and the Pink Panther Falls Balloon ride, along with an avalanche of hotels, shops and restaurants.

A Classic Honeymoon Spot Welcomes the Family

Today’s New York Times has a nice article about Niagara Falls titled A Classic Honeymoon Spot Welcomes the Family. This Weekend with the Kids feature talks about some places to visit, eat, and stay. I have included the beginning of the article below. You can read more on the New York Times web site (registration may be required).

A Classic Honeymoon Spot Welcomes the Family
By SUSAN CATTO

THERE is more to Niagara Falls than rushing water and honeymoons.

In a single trip, you can see one of the great natural wonders, treat your kids to a lifetime’s worth of haunted houses and wax museums, visit historic battlefields and wineries, and see plays by one of the best repertory companies in North America.

While the New York side of Niagara Falls has been repositioning itself as a family destination in recent years, it still has trouble competing with the Canadian side, where hotels cater to families and the Clifton Hill entertainment district has all the soft-serve ice cream and fun houses your offspring could possibly desire.

Cruise the Falls 5 Pictures

Cruise the Falls 5

Seeing 500 of anything together would be impressive, but seeing 500 PT Cruisers together is hard to describe. The owners take such pride in their cars and showing off the detailing, paint, and accessories. The back parking lot of the Comfort In n Clifton Hill was packed from 8 am through the day.

I’ve taken 79 pictures of the cars and the lot, as well as stitched together 3 panoramas. You can see them all in the 20050625 Cruise the Falls 5 section (under Niagara Falls Events) of the AccessNiagara.com Gallery.

I realize that this will be a large post to view through email, and maybe even on the web, but below is a collage of some of the pictures:

If you are interested in larger copies of any of the pictures, let me know. I will sell the originals (1280 x 960) for $2 an image or 3 for $5. This resolution would be good for desktop wallpaper or to print 3×5, 4×6 or 5×7 pictures. 8×10’s may be a bit grainy/blurry. I could also put together a collage similar to the one above with any combination of the pictures in the gallery. The price of that would depend on the number of pictures and the size you wanted the pictures. Payment for any picture would be through PayPal.

Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks Opening Today!

Tussaud's is opening today!

As you can see by this sign that was just inside Tussaud’s, they are opening today at 5 pm.

Below is another picture of the front of the building, this time taken from the north side looking south. The other pictures I’ve taken are from the south side looking north.

More on the Tussaud’s sign

Yesterday I posted that the large sign of Louis Tussaud is up in front of Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks. I don’t know if you noticed or not, but the sign was facing a different direction. Instead of facing up and down the street, it was facing across the street. I just figured that they did that on purpose. Well, it turns out that the sign turns. It rotates around.
Of course I can’t show you the sign rotating with a 2D stationery picture, but here is the picture from yesterday again.

Roses in Bloom

Along River Road / Niagara Parkway, there are many buildings and parks with gardens. There are many beautiful flower beds in Queen Victoria Park. One of the nicest is at the bottom of the Jolley Cut. There is a huge rose garden which is in turn surround by flower beds growing a variety of plants, shrubs and flowers. You can walk along the paths, take some pictures, and enjoy the scent.

The new Montana’s Cookhouse opened recently. Since then they have also put up a railing and are setting up a small patio.

Louis Tussaud Waxworks sign is back up again

Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks is still not open! I certainly expect them to be open by next weekend as it is both the Canada Day and Independence Day hollidays.

The large sign is back out front. You will recall that I posted previously that the Blondin and the sign were up, then I posted that the sign was gone. Well, the sign is back up but facing a different direction.
