From Niagara This Week:
Earth Hour in Niagara Falls is being heralded as a success by Coun. Jim Diodati, who spearheaded the city’s participation in the world wide event raising awareness for energy conservation.
Consumption of electricity in Niagara Falls Saturday was down marginally from the same time the week before, about one or two per cent, when residents and businesses switched off their lights, TVs and other electronic appliances for one hour between 8-9 p.m, according to Niagara Peninsula Energy (formerly Niagara Falls Hydro).
There was a drop of 900 megawatts of power usage in Ontario during Earth Hour, equivalent to what’s needed power 450,000 homes for an hour.
